A multi-phased rendition of the classic Hofzinser Ace Trick developed by Kostya Kimlat & Syd Segal. In this version the spectator is given a role and takes part in the routine by helping the magician find the selection through means of magic, mathematics, and awesomeness. Watch as Kostya's professional approach turns even the simplest card trick into a magical experience.Â
This is pure sleight-of-hand at its finest. This routine is a little challenging but it’s constructed very well for maximum impact. If you don’t have Kostya’s Roadrunner Cull DVD and Undercover Switch download, you’ll need to watch those first before learning this trick. It uses both of those moves but he doesn’t teach it in this video because it’s taught really well elsewhere. But I would highly recommend all of the above because whatever he releases is real world, professional, audience tested, sleight-of-hand fun.
The Hofzinser Ace Problem is one of my favorite plots, and up until now my favorite approaches have been from Darwin Ortiz and Jack Parker... but this one from Kostya may take the crown for me now.The construction on this is really smart and smooth. It can be done from a shuffled deck in use, no duplicate cards needed, and still looks completely fair and clean. I think adding a straightforward preliminary phase enhances the surprise of the transposition with the second selection, which is a great decision from Kostya.The only reason I gave this four stars instead of five is the teaching of the trick. It uses several intermediate level sleights and Kostya doesn't go into depth on their execution. There's one used towards the end that I was unfamiliar with until watching the explanation, and it's going to take a lot of practice and experimentation to get it down to where it's undetectable and natural. Over all though, really happy with this purchase and can't wait to put it into my impromptu repertoire.
