The Session COVID-19 Tests (International Visitors)
By Vanishing Inc. - Friday, December 10, 2021
As it stands, if you are traveling from outside of the UK to The Session, you'll need to perform a "day two" COVID test. While the process can sound a little complicated, the good news is that it's actually quick and easy to do. Despite its name, a "day two test" actually means that the test must be performed within two days of your arrival. You do not have to do it on your second day - we recommend doing the test as soon as you arrive into the UK.
You must then quarantine at your hotel until you receive a negative test result. (The official guidance states that you should not use public areas such as bars at the hotel until your get your results back.) Therefore, we recommend arriving on Thursday so that you can quarantine before your results, and then enjoy the convention from Friday morning onwards.
The test is mandatory for everyone entering the UK to check for COVID variants. You may face a fine of up to £2,000 if you do not take and register the test, so it's best to plan ahead. If you want all the specific details, you can read them on the UK Government website, but we've done our very best to make it as easy as possible below (and as these tests will be taken within 72 hours of the convention, you can reuse the test results to access the convention):
The Quickest Option
Book with: ConceptoTest
This walk-in test centre is a mile from the convention hotel. It's based at the Hyatt Place London Heathrow Hotel and you'll get your results returned by midnight the same day. You'll need to book ahead. It's easy to get to the test centre on the Hotel Hoppa bus, or with a taxi. We recommend that you get your test straight after arriving at the airport, and then by the time you're checked into The Session hotel, had a little relax in your room, you should have your test results. This test costs in the region of £130 (depending on when you book).
The Cheapest and Easiest Option
Book with: ExpressTest
These test centres are based within Heathrow airport. You must book ahead and you need to select a timeslot (we recommend booking it an hour or so after you are due to land). The testing centres allow you to arrive up to 45-minutes early for your test. Once you have done your test, it can take up to 24 hours to get your results back. They cost £69.
The UK government keep a pretty up to date list of testing centres. You can view them all here.
Passenger Locator Form
Everyone coming into the UK right now must complete a Passenger Locator Form. It's nothing complicated; just a form that details where you're staying and what test provider you use. When you book your test, you'll be given a unique test code to enter on the form. You need to complete the form during the 48-hour period before you fly.
Complete your form
This information is changing quickly. We'll endeavour to keep this post up to date, but we hope that you'll do your bit to check all of the regulations yourself before your arrival. This process is only for people flying into the UK — people already here just need to do a free lateral flow test before coming to the convention.
