LUX - magic
LUX LUX LUX LUX LUX LUX

The ultimate EDC weapon. A brilliantly dynamic James Bond-level utility. “LUX” by Lloyd Barnes has arrived and you’ll never leave home without it again.

"This is the greatest trick of the last decade. It's probably the greatest trick of all time." Craig Petty

With this unique device in your pocket, you can harness the power of UV light to create incredible moments of CGI-level magic in, or even ON, your spectator’s hands. The versatility of this utility device offers thousands of possibilities.

For example, you hand your spectator a UV pen and allow them to draw an invisible “X” anywhere on their hand. It then comes to life as they illuminate it with the “LUX” device. Here’s where things get crazy though. In slow motion, while they hold the "LUX" device, that "X" on their skin vanishes away. You then instruct them to shine the light on your hand or another part of your body and they will lose their minds when they see that “X” has jumped to you!

“LUX” is so much more than “Double Cross” on steroids though. It’s a super versatile tool that allows you to easily perform a variety of visual magic tricks and stunning mentalism routines. You can perform a squeaky clean Invisible Deck routine, crazy fair lottery prediction, book tests, bank nights and so much more. The dynamic nature of this utility device is unprecedented.

You won’t believe how easy “LUX” is to perform. You won't have to worry about any complicated sleight of hand or fragile gimmicks, and can instead focus on giving the best possible performance.

Your “LUX” set comes with everything you need to start performing right out of the box:

  • Precision-made “LUX” device
  • Custom UV pen with special ink designed to not irritate skin
  • 4x batteries (enough for approximately 6 months of performance)
  • Comprehensive instructional video featuring tons of applications, ideas, and special tips to get the most out of “LUX”

"Lloyd has done it again!! Visually stunning, crazy fooling and stupid easy to perform!! This is something special!!" Adam Wilber

"LUX is by far, the closest thing to real magic I've ever seen or experienced." Ben Williams

"LUX is such a powerful experience! It looks how real magic should look!" Tobias Dostal

"LUX is a powerful EDC that looks and feels like real magic." Rory Adams

"Lux is beautiful. It will leave an impact on everyone who sees it." Elliot Gerrard

"It is a truly rare occasion that magic sees innovation. And this is one of those occasions." Mijrin Al Hajri

This is double cross on steroids in my opinion. It’s now my every day carry. It’s packs small and plays big. Great tutorials with endless possibilities. You can really have fun doing this! Create multiple outs and blow people mind. It’s an ingenious idea and so far it’s still running on the original batteries. Very happy!

Not perfect, but 98% of the way there (and only due to some serious nit-picking on my part). It is *definitely* worth the price. This is something I'd dreamed of for some time, so I'm very happy to have this on my keychain! Buy it.

Another thoroughly enjoyable purchase! Plenty of fun and games with this well thought out utility device.
Look after it, avoid replacement pens that contain Zylene (smells fruity) & learn your timings-Lloyd ,'Shine On You Crazy Diamond ??' -fantastic, highly recommended,Dave.

Purchased LUX for it's amazing versatility. It hasn't disappointed.
The first unit arrived DOA, but the fantastic service at Vanishing Inc. corrected the problem with a new one in two days.
LUX has so much potential and I know it's staying with me wherever I go. The tutorials cover a lot, but really it's the basics, as you'll find ten ways to use it immediately upon arrival.
Worth the price.

Whatever you do do not put it on your Keychain as they suggest in the video. Had it on there 2 days and it's gone. All that is left is the battery cap attached to the chain. The rest unscrewed and came off. I'm sad as I was Killin it with it Saturday night. Now just out $75 plus the 2 day shipping cost. So I repeat do not take the video suggestion about the Keychain. I would hate to see this happen to anyone else. ?? still giving it an excellent because the routine is awesome.

Great product

Love the idea behind it

I prefer the invisible deck routine as I feel the cross one is abit to revealing with the light

Tutorial is great, last for around a hour and half, they cover everything and around 5 different routines

Definitely recommend as this is an everyday carry and can just be added to your keys to use on a daily basis

Lloyd Barnes is a very creative guy, and produces effects that are both fooling and fun. "LUX" is fun, but only occasionally fooling. The device generally does what is intended, but my close-up audiences have most often seen through the method. There are limits to how precisely this device can do what it must do, and hawk-eyed viewers are potentially going to notice even the slight imprecision. I will note that on the few occasions when the audience did not notice the method, their reactions were great. And the trick can be performed in ways that are quite direct and quick, so it has the potential to be a handy go-to, impromptu.
Perhaps for younger audiences, the mind-blowing illusion would land more consistently. Thus far, my performances of this trick have not been for youngsters, but I will try it when I have such an audience.

LUX is a neat little device, with which you can do some fun tricks. Lighting in the area you plan to do the tricks is important, because the wrong lighting conditions can either make it too difficult for spectators to see the "magic," or make it too obvious what the little device is doing to cause the illusion.
I am hopeful the product is durable. I cannot comment on the durability yet, but it seems like a typical pen-light. The packaging is great, and protective.
The instructions and ideas are good, as is typically the case with Lloyd and Javier (the guys who do this teaching). The video is produced well enough to make it an enjoyable watch.
I don't consider this product to be worth as much as the full regular price, but it's a cool utility with which you can garner some fun reactions.

What you can do with the device is actually good if you're smart with it. The main issue with this is I don't think these devices will last. I would use it here and there for performances, pulling it out of my drawer from time to time to use it and putting it away for weeks and months at a time. I just pulled it out again to play with a cool idea I had and unfortunately, the light is a bit of a glitchy mess now, not really working. Changed batteries and its still the same. If it was like $35-$45 dollars I'd just buy another but at its current price point, I can't recommend it.

A great idea, but flawed in practice. I'm not sure if it's just mine, but the shift between appearance and vanish of the ink is very obvious. I don't want to say too much more in case of exposure, but I haven't been able to convince myself to try it in the real world because of how different it looks.

Community questions about LUX

Have a question about this product? It's possible others do too. Ask here and other Vanishing Inc. Magic customers will be able to respond with assistance! Alternatively, email us and we can help too.

  • Don asks: A bit confused on this one. So, what I assume this is, is vanishing ultra-violet ink and a light that shows it vanishing and it re-appears on the magi, right? That's it?!

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Yes and no. There is a lot more that you can do this with. If you watch the trailer, you'll see that they show examples for a lottery prediction and even an invisible deck. This is a utility device for some.
  • Keith asks: Are the batteries the only thing that will need to be replaced over time?

    • 1. Jim answers: The UV pen will eventually need to be replaced.
    • 2. Timmy answers: Can the spectator write anything? Or does it have to be an "X" that transfers to your skin?
    • 3. Jack answers: It doesn’t have to be an ‘X’.

  • Rick asks: Will this effect work well outdoors/in a bright room? Or is it meant for a darker setting?

    • 1. David answers: I Had A Trick Like This And It Plays Better In The Darker Areas Like: Night Time Outside Or In A Bar Or Haunted House Hard To See In Light And SunLight
    • 2. Michael answers: It is suppose to work well in anything other than bright sunlight. Keep in mind that I don't have a test unit yet, so YMMV.

  • Fred asks: How long will the pen last.

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Without meaning to sound trite, it depends how much you turn it on. Replacement batteries are easily available though, and the type you need is explained.
  • Chris asks: For drawing on the arm, can it be anything other than a cross?

    • 1. Alexander answers: Yes it could be any small Shape but you should be prepared for that.

  • Shay asks: UV pen , eventually the pen need to be replaced but the question is can I buy the pen "stand alone " or separately ? or I need to order it again for 75 dollars? what's the alternative? and if so how much it will cost? thanks

    • 1. Jim answers: UV pens are available separately online. It isn't gimmicked, so they should be readily available. Search for UV marker.
    • 2. Gerald answers: They are very readily available such as at this link https://www.amazon.co.uk/Permanent-Violet-Marker-Security-Markers/dp/B005CWXL5W/ref=asc_df_B005CWXL5W/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309954632560&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5788671802187059695&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9044956&hvtargid=pla-699209138065&psc=1 which costs £2.85
    • 3. Justin answers: Any uv ink pen will work. But any uv flashlight will not work.

  • Peter asks: Just placed my pre order and the link and password are available, however when I go to the site the option to enter my password is not available.

    • 1. Jim answers: Correct. The instructions will be released when the product is released.

  • Peter asks: So the flashlight is gimmicked

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Yes.
  • Mariano asks: Are you limited to drawing an X? Are there any limitations on what can be drawn? Thanks.

    • 1. Jim answers: Whatever you can draw with a marker will work.

  • Ronald asks: This light looks similar to one I received in a "mind reading" kit. Is this the same?

    • 1. Jim answers: Since I don't have your kit, I can say for sure. What I can say, is that LUX is a light that is custom made for this effect.
Post an answer to this question
  • Ralph asks: So if the flashlight is gimmicked, is it examinable or would it be obvious for the audience member, that it is special?

    • 1. Jim answers: It will pass regular examination. I would not hand it to a scientist that loves flashlights.

  • Gary asks: How long does the image stay visible? In the video it looks like it appears and then disappears after a few seconds. Can the image remain visible for a longer time as the light is being shined on it?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: It remains visible for about 8-10 seconds. There are different modes so you can shine it longer.
  • David asks: Once you show the mark on the spectators arm vanishing and you show the mark on your arm appearing…. If the spectator puts his arm under another UV light source later in the evening, is the mark still visible? If the magician gets his arm near a UV light source before the trick, will you see a mark on his arm

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Yes, the marks are still visible if another UV light source hits the arm.
  • John asks: I see the flashlight batteries need replacing... how long should the bulb last? Is it replaceable, or would I need to replace the flashlight?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: The bulb should last you a very long time. Lloyd doesn't mention its lifespan but it can probably be replaced. The flashlight is not replaceable.
  • Richard asks: Is the image on the magician's arm exactly the same in all details as the spectator's? Does the image remain stationary on magicians arm?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Yes, the image is stationary and is the same as the one on the spectators. You draw both images so you'll want to make sure that they match.
  • Peter asks: I notice on the trailer the spectator draws the X on themselves, would it be best if the magician drew it so it would match the magician’s X ?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Yes, the magician can draw the X on the spectator too. The great thing about LUX is that the routines can be altered to fit your performing style.
  • David asks: Can You Show Us A Pic Of Uv Light And How Big It Is ?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: The UV light is no bigger than a standard toothpick. It can clip onto your car keychain so that you have it with you at all times.
  • Sean asks: I have purchased a number of UV mini flashlights. Most of them burn out/break in a matter of weeks (and I am not rough with them). Is there a warranty and what is the duration?

    • 1. Jim answers: None is listed. Thus far, I have not seen any reports of burn outs or breakage. A few didn't work out of the box, but the percentage is small.

  • Randy asks: Hello! It appeared in the trailer the one of the guys shining the light on his forearm had a name or a word on it. So we are not just limited to the X. I don’t know if you can answer this or not but, does everything have to be pre written on our arm, hands, etc. or does this gimmick literally “aid” in that? I hope you understand what I am getting at. I just don’t see how you could have the same name, or word that someone else writes on them….the X makes sense. Thank you!

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Without exposing too much, the possibilities are endless. You do not have to perform the X. It can be anything and they teach a bunch of other ideas on the instructions.
  • Timmy asks: Can the spectator write anything? Or does it have to be an "X" that transfers to your skin?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: You are not limited to an X that can be transferred.
  • David asks: Having bought this effect (I can't recommend it enough!!)I was under the impression that only certain UV pens are safer to use than others. With the addition of Zylene (skin irritation problems etc)certain pens ie.Edding8280 are to be avoided? Why does Lloyd pass the guy in the first clip of the advert a pen he went to great lengths to avoid (Edding 8280!!?)it doesn't make sense,as the pen included in LUX is first class & Lloyds design.I love all your work Lloyd but you know how dangerous Zylene is & as a loyal fan, I'm a little disappointed, very best wishes & kindest regards, Dave.

    • 1. Jim answers: You might want to post this on the LUX Facebook support group.
    • 2. David answers: Thanks Jim,feel free to pass this information on to who ever needs to hear it as a performer-for me,I avoid Facebook whenever possible (It's reduced elements of my family to constant negatively) I do accept however,it does SOME good? Zylene SHOULD BE AVOIDED,whenever possible!

  • Patrick asks: Without giving away the trick, would I be right in assuming that I couldn't perform this e.g. Corporate Finance where everyone wears white long cuff shirts that are themselves UV florescent? At least not without the audience working out that something other than the ink has changed?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Because you're shining the light on an object with the ink, there shouldn't be a need to shine it on clothing. The light is not bright enough to accidentally shine on the object AND the clothes. You're able to direct the beam of light.
  • Shay asks: Hi friends, if I have used the product 3 times since the day I bought it and it has broken down, what do you do in such a situation? And it's not batteries, it's the device itself, this thing costs 75 dollars and doesn't last. Very disappointed with the product and its level of quality. And it's not the batteries, they were replaced with the same batteries, it looks like something in the device itself and im asking myself how? its cost almost 100$.

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Hi there! Please email our Support Wizards and they will help find a solution for you. wizards@vanishingincmagic.com
  • Walter asks: Regarding replacement UV Ink pens: Javier suggests a couple that are acceptable and a couple that should be avoided. He concludes that the specific pen Lloyd included in the LUX package is the very best, and I suspect that is a good conclusion; however, he does not say what kind of pen that is, nor where that specific pen can be purchased. Does anyone know that information?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Any Uv pen will be fine to use, I would suggest looking on amazon
  • Nathan asks: Would this be able to be performed in a dark room with existing black lights? I am going to be at a 'neon night' event, and it will be a dark room with a lot of blacklights already. Can I still perform these effects with the flashlight?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: It's probably not best round other backlights
