A time-tested classic reimagined to serve as the perfect everyday carry for the modern performer.

Inspired the iconic “Linking Pins” (which was popularized by Jerry Andrus), Kim Andersen has created an organic powerhouse effect that you will want to carry with you everywhere. These two everyday objects are all you need to leave every person you meet speechless.

Using just a safety pin and a finger ring (which can even be borrowed if you’d like), you can perform a hard-hitting series of visual miracles—each one more impossible than the last. Right in front of their eyes, the ring and safety pin melt through each other like a warm knife through butter. Each phase happens at your command until finally the safety pin and ring unlink for the final time.

Here’s the craziest part… everything can then be examined.

“Shrapnel” is like movie magic in real life. But it’s NOT just another social media magic trick. This is a practical and commercial worker designed to be performed in your close-up magic and street magic sets.

You get everything you need to start performing “Shrapnel” right away, including two precision-made gimmicked pins, a custom carrying tin, a finger ring and some extra accessories. The two hour detailed video from creator Kim Anderson features multiple live performances and highlights everything you need to know in great detail.

Pull the pin and make their brains explode with "Shrapnel." A must-have everyday carry magic trick. Get yours today!

This is a wonderful effect to walk around with. It is compact and the video is easily digestible. It definitely takes practice to get the ring on the pin but once you figure this out, you have a miracle.

I love this. Very well presented and Kim Anderson makes learning good fun.

This is certainly one I’m going to invest the time in to make the effect first class.

Personally I think it’s great value for money - when you look at the materials, and the support, it’s brilliant.

Very well made. First you receive everything in the box so you can start practicing and performing right away.

Kim Anderson is a very good teacher and very considerate to teach all type of handling for all range magician from beginner to pro. He even taught you how to perform shrapnel seated using two normal safety pin.

Highly recommended.

Typical stellar job from Kim here. He has obvious worked this for some time in the real world and has thought of everything from start to cleanup. With 3 regular pins and 2 gimmicks (even though you only need one of each) and even a practice ring, you can start performing immediately after receiving this. The instruction is incredibly thorough -- just under 2 hours where many would give you 20-30 minutes. And that includes multiple live performances.

It may not be new but it is very well done -- even the way the pin is gimmicked has been thought out and done slightly differently than most other versions. If you like what you see in the trailer, get it. Highly recommended.

This product is fantastic!
About 2 hours of tutorial, 2 gimmicks, 3 extra regular safety pins, a good quality gold ring, a magnet, and a carry tin that looks like a regular mint tin!
Well worth the money ??
Highly recommend

Kim has done a great job with his take on this effect. Because of the uniqueness of the props I’m of the opinion that you’ll need to bring some storytelling to the effect to justify why you’re carrying around a small tin with a safety pin and ring inside but that’s one of the things I like about it. You can really make a unique presentation around it.

I really want to give this 1 star, but not because it isn't great, but because I don't want any more magicians doing this trick, I just want it for me and the others that already have it. But in all seriousness, this is a killer effect. Kim takes an old prop and breathes new life into it. I have purchased so much magic that after I mess with it for a bit goes straight into the magic drawer to never be see again. But Shrapnel is going straight to my pocket and straight into my EDC. The gimmick is well crafted, and the instructional video is phenomenal at just under 2 hours long. Everything about this effect is practical. It's also fairly easy to learn with the exception of just a couple knacky moves.

You receive everything you need, which comes in a nice presentation box. Comes with a video production off nearly two Hours off video play time, this video definitely needs a lot off editing. The video starts with a painful standing demonstration, This is followed by the teaching off the stand up version, followed by the teaching off the sitting down version, no live performance, or person to person, for the sitting down version, which i found disappointing, all the moves are taught, including a completely different routine near the end, included in this video are lots off tips within the methods taught, Nearly 15mins off a live performance video,
Been good if the live performances were filmed were you could see the moves that are taught at normall speed, especially dumping and retrieving from the back pocket, none off these moves were filmed in the live performances, as a lot off this was mostly the reaction off the spectators, or negative bad angle viewing,
i even started to feel sea sick with the camera moving around so much.
Other than that, Shrapnell takes up hardly any pocket space, its even smaller than a deck off cards, And it comes with several layers off methods that you can perform, what's great is use the methods that suit you best. You don't have to borrow a ring, you can use the ring thats provided.
Shrapnel is a good fun one to perform.
Shame about the bad video productions.

So, I really like the effect. Kim Andersen throws some humor and jokes in the tutorial, but I find it myself that he isn’t the best mentor. He does struggle sometimes finding the goed words, but what you get is a lot. He goes over all the sleights that you need to know, for example the shuttle pass. I personally do not perform it often. I struggle a bit with catching the ring into the safety pin, so sometimes I really need to dig in to get it! You are going to need to have some practice, you get everything you need and a ring that you can use for other tricks! So I give this 4 stars! Just one star off because I didn’t find it the best tutorial video, you do get the content table though and I for me until now it’s a bit risky to do it cause I fail a couple of times. And it’s not that I am a bad magician, I do think I need to practice more, I am also a card magician and this is the first product/trick that I am learning that aren’t playing cards!
But I don’t think it is a bad investment, I really do see it as a EDC and I would recommend it to people who do street magic and walk around!

  • Ridho asks: Is it beginner level and does it have any difficult moves?

    • 1. Steve answers: If it is like the linking safety pins that I bought back in the 80s, it is nearly self-working. I recall a couple of bold moves but nothing too difficult. Were I to pull out my linking pins, I'd practice for a week to restore my magical handling (confidence).

  • Andrew asks: What size is the included ring?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: The size isn't mentioned in the instructions. However, the creator says that you will not need to wear it when performing because it's a practice ring. You can use any ring.
  • David asks: How Easy ? And Are Sleights Involved ?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: It's impossible to answer how easy it is, as it depends on your skill level. I would say it isn't difficult as the gimmicked pins do most of the work. But, as ever, we offer a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee. So if you get it and are not happy, you can return it for a refund or store credit. Hope that gives you some peace of mind about shopping with us!
  • Emuu asks: Is the gimmicked pin itself, fully examinable?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: You are supplied with a gimmicked pin and an ungimmicked pin.
  • Sam asks: How similar is this to Ellusionist’s ‘Flite’?

    • 1. Christopher answers: I don’t think they are the same. Two completely different products.

  • Sean asks: I have the original Andrus pins. Are there any additional benefits (nuances, routining or design improvements) that this offers? I am honestly interested, but wanted to make an informed decision. Thanks.

    • 1. Jim answers: There is a lot here. Without going into the details, I will say that that explanation video is just under *two* hours. I hope that helps!

  • James asks: As the gimmicked pin "melts" into the spectator's ring, is there a danger that the ring will be scratched?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: There is a small chance of that but you'll need to know which size rings you'll need to use for that not to happen.
  • Charles asks: At 1:34 the kit is shown as containing three pins. May we assume that one is ungimmicked and two are gimmicked?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Correct! This way you can hand it out for examination.
  • William asks: Are these 3 inch pins?

    • 1. Christopher answers: These are two inch pins.

  • Stephane asks: Is the move at 00:32 feasible? Knowing the original method, I feel like this part of the video is running backward in time and actually shows the unlinking phase as a linking phase.

    • 1. Christopher answers: What you see is exactly how it happens. Kim says it’s not something he does a lot because it’s a knack but I’ve been getting it down easier than I thought.

  • Warren asks: How fragile is the gimmicked pin ie would i be able to carry it around in my wallet rather than use the tin or would there be a risk of damaging it ?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: The pin is the same as a normal safety pin but we recommend that you carry it in the provided tin.
  • Joseph asks: Does Kim (or could he be persuaded to) divulge the maker of the ungimmicked pins? I would like to have a metric ton of them to leave with people as a souvenir/sanity breaker... ;)

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: That's a great idea! The pins are very standard and you can find them in most arts and crafts stores.
  • David asks: I've owned several sets of Jerry Andrus pins and they are wonderful, since then I've purchased similar pins from other companies and the break after a couple performances. Are these made to last?

    • 1. Jim answers: If you treat them with respect, they will last. If not…

  • Larry asks: Are replacement pins available? One already fell apart on day two (didn't break; I believe the weld was weak because it simply dropped out NOT from pressure or performance)?

    • 1. Jim answers: None are listed at our suppliers. Write to customer service.

  • José Carlos asks: Hi, can these pins be used for Jerry Andrus routines?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Yes!
  • Geoffrey asks: My gimmick broke. Can I use super glue to repair it or is there another method?

    • 1. Jim answers: If you have the skills, tools and supplies, I would use silver soldering. Super Glue may work, but I would not expect it to last.
