Grifters Grifters Grifters Grifters Grifters Grifters

As the tale goes, the hobos of the Great Depression used to spend excruciatingly long hours, or even days, about trains moving from one place to another. They would bide their time by carving their signature imagery into the famed "Buffalo Nickels", turning them into exclusive works of art to be traded, and more importantly, recognized for their craftsmanship and prestige within this subculture. The Hobo Nickel originators are now famed for creating, not just a modified coin, but an exclusive, sculpted work of art. If you held one of these coins, it was your key to the underground.

The Grifters coins are imagined reality based on the legacy of the Hobo Nickels of the early 1900s. With an antique style, patina-silver finish, the Grifters have been handworn in the Murphy's manufacturing lab to reduce 'talking' and increase the glide that many top coin men cherish. Grifters have a fine-milled edge for stable gripping and have been shaped and weight matched to the specifications of a US Kennedy Half Dollar so that most coin workers can be immediately familiar.

  • Antique silver-patina finish
  • Finely milled edges for best handling and noise reduction
  • Hand-worn surface for smoothness and glide
  • Scuff and scratch resistant, built for toughness
  • Matched weight and dimensions of a Kennedy Half Dollar

Included with the package are seven classic beginning coin effects and several handling techniques that are perfect for taking your first step into coin magic.

Grifters are your tokens of access to a hidden world and accepted by only those who know... "Fallaces sunt rerum species".

Note: The new batch come with a thicker coin then the coin in the instruction video.

Love these coins! I hope you get more in stock soon. The instructional video was also really well made.

I've just received this and a little disappointed that they've changed the design quite a bit from the product description. It does have a note on the product description saying that the coin will be thicker than the one in the trailer, but that's not the only changes. It no longer has the milled edge. It is thick with a rounded edge. This means it is awkward to grip. It's fine for the finger palm made use of in the video, but when you try to place in classic palm the lack of milled edge and the rounded edge means it pops out quite easily. The thicker coin doesn't have the same look as the ones in the photo. The design has been made thicker, but it's to a point where this does not look genuine or even close. I have the David Roth set Murphy put out which has nice Morgan dollar replicas. This doesn't have that look. It just looks new.

On the video they cover sanding the coin to age it which I will try, but with the thicker design standing out I can see this will be difficult as there are going to be recesses that remain shiny. It's a shame as I do like the concept of the coin, a nice little curiosity that is ideal for a one coin routine, but it just doesn't look right and I can't see it will handle that well with the milled edge gone and the design sticking out a lot.

The tutorial is 25 minutes and it shows finger palm and then a few different vanishes. It's nicely shot, teaches the moves well and has a nice little one coin routine. You also get taught a couple of techniques for changing a coin if you want to make use of an extra coin and how to do a coin roll. Nothing ground breaking here, but it's a nice bonus as the coin isn't massively expensive.

I just wish the design was the same as the one pictured. If anyone from Murphy's reads this and has the old ones to send out I'd love one. Or if you produce more of these revert to the old design and I wouldn't mind buying another.
