Over the course of eight decades, Powell trod the world's stages performing magic before delighted audiences. He was a powerful image in theater history and a major attraction in P.T. Barnum's circus. Audiences were thrilled with his conjuring throughout South and Central America. Powell Assisted Houdini in the promotion of his movie, The Man From Beyond. He survived fires, floods, earthquakes, and even the Mexican Revolution. In his later years, he was conferred with the conjuring profession's highest honor -- Dean of American Magicians -- by both the National Conjurors' Association and the esteemed Society of American Magicians. He was a supreme performer, a true gentleman, and one of the most respected and beloved magicians in the world.

Wow! I ordered this December 27th, and it arrived just 2 days later! (I live near Albany, N.Y.)As for the book, what can i say except, if you love magic history, get this book while you still can! If you HATE magic history, get this book while you still can. It will change your mind! If you can read at ALL, get this book while you still can. If you CAN'T read at all, get this book while you still can. It's worth the price for the images alone! I performed magic for many years, but have always been even more into reading about magic's wonderful, interesting, and colorful history. And though i have read a ton of magic history books, old and new, mags, old and newer, etc and watched any documentaries i could on magic history, i have to unequivocally say, this book is at the very tippie top of my list of faves. I actually even have 2 original Powell posters not shown in this amazing book. To describe my feelings about this book in their truest form, this book is a beautiful work of art that belongs in the best of museums just as much as any great painting, sculpture, etc. does. In other words, i kinda like it (lol).
