Eugene Burger's, the long out-of-print book has been reprinted. It is an oversized hardcover with dustjacket, printed on quality acid-free paper and contain oodles of great tricks (enough for your entire repertoire) as well as thought-provoking and educational essays by Eugene, widely recognized as one of the greatest thinkers and teachers of magic in our lifetime.

The seven small booklets written by Eugene Burger and published in the early 1980s, Secrets and Mysteries, Audience Involvement, Secrets of Restaurant Magic, Eugene Burger on Matt Schulien's Fabulous Card Discoveries, Intimate Power, The Craft of Magic and Rediscoveries have been out of print for years. Thanks to Richard Kaufman, they are now available in a new 230 page hardcover book, with almost 200 illustrations by Earl Oakes. These hard to find booklets have been collected in a completely re-typeset format with new essays by Eugene commenting on his past writings, his current thoughts on his tricks and routines, as well as updated tricks.

Spolier Alert ! - This book will spoil will you :)
Rather than just purchase a smaller Eugene (we are on a first name basis now - such a connecting writer and performer ) offering I decided "for the extra $50 go for the much larger book."
And I think I have already read every page, and the original "Corner in Glass" routine (which is included) which is what really interested me is but one great color in this amazing work. Because in this case (corner in glass) Eugene paints a picture of the creator of the trick that yields an equally powerful magic message and lesson.
If you work in Restaurants / Bars / or some way paid to do Magic then I would recommend spending the $65 as one of the best investments you'll ever make.
After reading this book, you'll feel your performances get much better because people will be relating to you better and you'll be enjoying things more because you'll be performing with more "you" in your magic.
The tricks included in the book are commercial gold. And very very doable.
Eugene is so humble as he walks you along the routines and provides a great description of what is happening and what is important for the audience to be feeling and comprehending moment to moment.
Many of the pieces are also shuffled deck impromptu types as well - which work so well for audiences.
A lot of content in this book is above the pure performing arena and as he states are reflections to himself on the Art of Magic, and how to improve. Make your material stonger and your act more impactful is a better exercise than buying new tricks (sorry Vanishing Inc.)
This book will put you on the right path.
And Eugene is a gifted communicator to just spend time with.
There are many well known pro Magicians who rate this as one of their best reads. And there are many excellent reviews of this book out there.
Just chiming in hear as there are only a couple of reviews posted here.
But this book really brings up the subject of what is the best way to learn ? And I am starting to lean towards books over tricks and videos.
But I guess I am being spoiled.
Spoil yourself - Buy It !

This is typical eugene burger material. Love the essays. The magic is interesting but I have never been compelled to do much of Burger's magic. The book is well written and has some great ideas. I have a lot of Burger books and I am a fan even though I don't really do any of the tricks to be honest.
