Of Dice and Men is Tom Stone’s famous “Hug/Kill” trick.

You bring a participant up on stage and explain that you are going to let the roll of a dice decide how you greet her. She shakes a dice in a cup and calls out the number. “Three!”. You remove the card with the number three from the stand and it says “Hug”. You hug the spectator, accidentally revealing that all of the other cards say “Kill”.

This could be one of the most memorable stage openers there is. It packs small and plays big which is why it has become a staple routine for so many professional magicians around the world. For the first time, it is now available to buy, with everything made to Tom’s exacting standards.

  • Easy to do
  • Packs small
  • Self-working
  • Gimmick included
  • Dice can be examined

Package includes: Gimmick, Dice, Card Stand (collapsible) and full video instructions. You must supply your own cup, or container to shake the dice.

Performing in another language? You can easily substitute the plastic cards for cards that you print yourself.

"Of Dice and Men" is Tom Stone's gift to comedy magic. Performing it guarantees the biggest laugh in my act... or anyone's act. It is a deceptively subtle masterpiece.Rob Zabrecky
""This routine is a modern day classic with both amateurs and professionals alike. It's easy, magical, and hilarious."Eric Buss
"It is a perfect routine. Easy to carry, easy to perform, plays big, and gets even bigger laughs."Michael Night
"A killer applause cue"Anthony Miller

Of Dice and Men (Hug/Kill) by Tom Stone is a fun and captivating stage opener that brings a perfect blend of simplicity and intrigue to any performance. With a participant rolling a dice to determine their greeting, the routine builds anticipation and amusement as the chosen card prompts either a hug or a humorous “kill.”

It is self-working with minimal setup and that makes it helpful to magicians of all levels and is portable for performances in any setting (minus strolling but that’s a given).

The included package comes with gimmicks, dice, and collapsible card stand that is easy to use.

I purchased this in 2018 and have incorporated it into various performances, from cabaret setting to current residency at LuvWoo Bar in St. Louis. Its enduring charm and effectiveness have proven its worth many times over, delivering entertainment value far beyond its initial cost.

Of Dice and Men is a worthy investment for any magician seeking an engaging and memorable stage routine that never fails to captivate audiences and set the perforce tone for a fun show ahead.

This is a wonderful opener to any stage/parlour show.

The effect is almost self working, leaving you able to concentrate on the presentation. The props are great quality, however the number cards will take some flattening out of the box - I left them under a stack of heavy books for a couple of days and this did the trick.

A minor gripe is that there is no dice cup provided, so you’ll have to either use your own or a similar receptacle if you want to use the included dice. I have my own method getting the correct number chosen.

All in all, this comes highly recommended and is a great addition to your set.

A short, sweet and yet detailed instruction of this powerfully simple routine. This is going straight into my show.

Probably one of the best moments in my entire show. The reactions you get with this effect are really worth it. Easy to do, self working and a very clever idea to introduce an spectator to the stage. Plus, once you know the secret, you can easily customize the cards to your own style if you wish.

Tom Stone does a great job on the design and the explanation. I would have liked another way of presenting the cards (numbers) in another way than on this bar. The trick is great, it's a fun opener, easy to perform and packs small and plays big.

Tom Stones take on Andy Nymans classic Dice Man brings this killer effect towards the stage. Having seen Rob Zabrecky perform this and Justin Willmans own spin, this works brilliantly on stage, with great spectator and audience interaction.

The trick and the idea itself are brilliant.
Even the "plastic clip" looks not really durable I bought this product here in Germany ($ 80) just to get the permission to perform this trick.
The six plastic sheets are fine but it took more than 3 days to flatten them. The packaging is nice but after you bought it you could not really use it anymore, because you should transport the sheets flat. But it looks nice on my shelf.
I am afraid that the plastic clip will last - as we say in German - "from Monday to high noon". (May be the "Vanishing Inc-Logo" on the clip helps to make it solid ;-)).
I made a new clip of metal to be one the safe side.
The Video is made with an minimun amount of efforts, but the hints of Tom Stone are very useful and he cames to the point.
Even the workmanship is not that good I would give 5 stars for this great idea to Tom Stone.

This is such a quirky, offbeat effect that I was going to make it up after reading it in "Maelstrom" Fortunately VanInc made life so easy by now marketing their high quality, yet low priced version of the effect. I recently got a great reaction with it - and it is definitely a keeper. One of the best deals of 2018, you will have fun with it!

This trick is absolutely amazing. I use it in my big live show every month and it never fails to get a hilarious reaction. And is a great way to start a show and let’s the audience know what kind of show they are getting themselves into.

It’s dark, playful but all around hilarious. My routine with it involves me being socialy awkward as a kid ?? I highly recommend this routine to anyone who wants to add some comedic relief in their share ??

  • Charles asks: Do the cards still come rolled up so they are impossible to straighten?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: The cards do come rolled up. I personally own a set, and have had no issues with them straightening out. I placed them flat under my stack of Tabell books, and left them for the weekend. Zero issues. Rumor has it that the Card Collage series will work as well. :)
  • James asks: can the cup you provide for the effect be a clear glass so the dye is visible to the audience?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: You provide your own cup. It cannot be clear, however.
  • Jack asks: I'm having the worst time trying to straighten out the cards. Any ideas? I've had the cards under the Al Baker book AND all three Stewart James books. Still haven't straightened out yet!! Do the replacement cards you sell separately come rolled up and shrink wrapped too? No love loss here, just wish they were not rolled into a tube. Thanks for your help.

    • 1. Dane answers: What I did I folded them back the other way and left it in my hot car for the day and that pretty much worked.
    • 2. Jack answers: I also bent them the other way with rubber bands and those suckers sprung right back!
