The first comprehensive hardcover book from one of the funniest and hardest-working magicians in the world. After selling out almost instantly after the doors opened at MAGIC Live!, Offbeat by Nick Diffatte is now available worldwide.

“Nick Diffatte is a rare breed. Clever, funny—a total badass.” Chris Kenner

Within the nearly 200 pages of this incredible book, you’ll get an exclusive look at why Nick Diffatte is a truly sensational magician and entertainer, and one of magic’s biggest rising stars. He welcomes you into his world, offering a firsthand workers-perspective on creating truly unique material and carving your own path.

This is not just another trick encylopedia. There is something for everyone from fresh & original routines, to thought-provoking essays and breathtaking art. Offbeat by Nick Diffatte is as worthy of the space on your coffee table as it is a spot in your magic library.

“Offbeat sizzles with strong, novel, and commercial magic while presenting a genuine mood-altering experience in the form of thought-provoking and funny essays, deft photos, and whimsical illustrations. It’s a richly appointed banquet of visual thinking. Simply put, Diffatte is a talent to watch, and Offbeat is clever from cover to cover.” Joel Hodgson, Creator of Mystery Science Theater 3000

Contents of Offbeat by Nick Diffatte

The 16 routines included in Offbeat are road-tested, audience-proven gems. Most importantly, they’re practical material that you’ll actually do. There’s no half-baked ideas in here. Just a ton of amazing magic tricks that have been performed thousands of times for real audiences by a working pro. It’s truly a pleasure to see how Nick is pushing the art of comedy magic forward through novel presentations that pay homage to his biggest inspirations like Tom Mullica and Mac King, without falling into the copy-and-paste trap that plagues comedy magic.

Mac King (who also wrote the foreword) summed it up perfectly: “I sure do love Nick Diffatte. He is my hope for the future of comedy magic.”

Some of Nick’s most closely-guarded secrets are buried within these pages. Everything from stage and parlor magic like unique magic tricks with balloon animals, rope magic tricks and a hilarious handcuff routine, to close up magic miracles with everything from sticks of gums to contact lenses and, of course, playing cards.

Every effect is presented in crystal clear detail and accompanied by original art by Vernon James and photographs by Brett Loudermilk. No detail was spared as Nick shares everything from the necessary moves to key scripting and other insights discovered as the routines evolved.

As Nick Diffatte is an entertainer and comedian as much as he is a magician, you won’t be surprised to learn that each routine is designed to entertaining as much as it is magical. This focus on presentation means there isn’t much difficult sleight of hand you’ll have to worry about. While some of the routines do require a bit of prep work, the effort is well worth it.

While these incredible routines are designed to be performed, we think many magicians will find the most value from the nine included essays. As a bonafide worker, Nick Diffatte has seeen it all. His insights on comedy magic and presentation (including why it’s important to not be afraid to be bad on stage) are worth their weight in gold.

Offbeat by Nick Diffatte is guaranteed to be a bestseller that will be sell out quickly. Those who want to own a copy should not delay.

Please note that there is a light bit of cursing within the book and some themes that might be considered PG-13.

Let me start with the quick review: if you do parlor or stage, but this book. You’re welcome.

A little longer review: this book is exactly what I think magic books need to be. Packed with workable material, advice and thoughts on performing magic, and solid advice for how each routine plays best when performing it.

Every effect in this book is a solid routine. This isn’t one of those, 2 routines are good but the rest is trash. Everything in this book is awesome. Every page is worth reading. If this is the quality Nick is putting out this early in his career, holy smokes, I can’t wait to see what he’ll be teaching over the course of what is certain to me a legendary career.

I saw Nick performing at the Blackpool convention a few years back, his show was a breath of fresh air.
His original funny material was a highlight of that weekend.

When I heard he was releasing a book, it went straight on to my wish list.
Well he didn't disappoint, the book is full of great advice, fun routines all the time sprinkled with Nick's sense of humour.

Bravo Nick, if you are looking to start creating your own act, I can highly recommend Off Beat.

After watching Nick perform at Magifest, I knew I needed this book. The material inside is wonderful and super well thought out. The essays on magic and comedy writing are extremely well thought out and beneficial for any performer. I can’t recommend this book enough, it is absolutely worth every penny.

A great perspective for the modern performer.

The first time I met Nick, he was still in high school here in Minnesota.

Here was this teen, doing better magic, telling funnier jokes, and could read an audience better than 95% of SEASONED PROFESSIONALS!

Read his book, not for the tricks, they are good and all, but for the essays. I don’t know how Nick got so smart, but trust me, listen to him…he’s the real deal and he ain’t gonna steer you wrong.
