A revamped version of an all-time classic that allows your audience to hold the cards.

"Brainwave Redux" by Allen Garcia (aka cntrl_shft) and Magic Shop San Diego is a novel take on the Brainwave effect that attempts to solve one of the biggest problems impacting the classic effect—the fact that your participant can never touch the cards.

Your participant starts by imagining a deck of playing cards and shuffling them. They then go through some of them and choose one. Once they have a card locked in, you bring everyone's attention to a real deck of cards that's been sitting on the table the whole time.

The participant opens the deck and spreads through to find their thought-of card. The card is removed from the deck and the deck is then turned over to show clearly that all the cards are the same color. They then turn the thought-of card over to see it is impossibly the only one with a odd-colored back.

  • Super easy to do
  • Hands off
  • The spectator can hold and spread through the cards
  • Instant reset
  • No sleight of hand needed

"Brainwave Redux" comes with a quality gimmicked deck that handles all the hard work for you. It is made with Bicycle Playing Cards stock and available in either red or blue.

NOTE FROM VANISHING INC.
We'd like to clarify some potential confusion from the trailer. Creating a gaffed deck that the participant can hold and spread through required the creator to sacrifice the ability to allow any card to be chosen. Instead, your participant will mentally select from a bank of cards in the invisible deck of cards (this is a free choice, no forces). The routine is structured in a way though where this feels just as fair as choosing any card.

Additionally, the instructions make it seem like you will need to do some DIY, but that is not the case. Your "Brainwave Redux" deck comes ready to go.

Very deceptive marketing. They cannot pick any card, like in a typical BrainWave deck. The force is not natural for most of us. Plus, you have to be able to remember the cards. I can barely remember what I had for lunch. So, any trick that requires any kind or memorization, I will not use. Had I known this, I wouldn't have bought it. Lesson learned. I gave it two stars because the concept is clever, but I would NEVER do this trick.

The selling hype associated with this effect is the supposed ability to hand the deck to the spectator without the danger of the spectator discovering the secret within the deck. However, you are limited to eight (8) cards as force cards. The effect is dependent upon the performer's ability to force one of the eight choices for the spectator to select, in order for the desired effect to occur to make the trick work. I believe it is easier to manage the audience in order to not hand the deck out than it is to manage forcing one of the eight limited selections onto the spectator. My recommendation is to stay away from this effect and purchase a different "Brainwave Deck". I suggest the "Ultimate Phoenix Brainwave Deck" by "Card Shark" or the "No Fumble" Brainwave Deck by "Magic Tricks".
