More than 4-hours of Luke Jermay like you’ve never seen him before. “You’re Only Lying to Yourself” is a jam-packed download and book set that showcases how putting a deck of cards in the hands of a leading mentalist can produce some of the most unique card magic you’ve ever seen.

Those who know Luke Jermay as one of the world’s top mentalists may be surprised to learn that he loves card magic. His passion and creativity shines through in this incredible project.

“You’re Only Lying to Yourself” features 15 amazing card tricks from over two decades of creating with playing cards. It offers something for everyone from traditional card tricks to mesmerizing mental magic effects and mentalism pieces.

The best part? Many of these effects are quite easy to perform. There's truly something for every skill level on this download. While this includes effects that will require some practice or knowledge of common sleight of hand moves, there are also others that are basically self-working and can be done by even those those mentalists that rarely pick up a deck of cards.

Just like all of Luke Jermay’s releases, everything in this download is direct, powerful and a ton of fun to perform. Luke’s novel plots and techniques leave audiences second-guessing if you truly have supernatural powers. Even the most pure mentalists will walk away with a new perspective on how playing cards and mentalism can work together.

There’s pseudo gambling material that gives the appearance of otherworldly skills with almost no sleight of hand required. Luke also shares updates on classics of magic like a captivating new way to frame the Ambitious Card and a Shuffled Out of this World that can be performed using a legitimately shuffled deck. All the dirty work is perfectly hidden within the framework of the effect, making this easily one of the standouts of the downoad. (Shuffled Out of This World is also available to learn for free in the VI Studio for members of Masterclass.)

Both mentalists and magicians alike will enjoy Luke’s unique mentalist and storytelling approach to card magic. While there are some stunning prediction effects, Luke also shows how he can make a standard card trick more memorable. Using his own unique method, Luke evolves the Spectators Finds the Aces to be structured around finding their birthday or something else very personal to creates a visceral experience they'll never forget.

All of this and so much more is available in the “You’re Only Lying to Yourself” box set that comes with a download and special hardcover book exploring the history and development of each trick. Anyone who purchases directly through Vanishing Inc. won’t have to wait for their set to arrive either, as the downloads will also be added to your account to watch immediately.

Update (October 2022): Since the release of “Your Only Lying To Yourself”, talented magician Cristóbal C. Liñán reached out to us to highlight a similarity between his routine “Tahúr” published in 2015 and Luke's “Shuffled Middle Deal”. While the routines are different there are direct similarities between the two. Luke was unaware of Cristóbal routine when he created his version and highly recommends that anyone interested in such routines seek it out.

Jermay”s Fortune Telling deck is a clever idea. He presents a mini act with a unique looking deck that could create a lot of interest all by it self. The fact that you must draw your own meaningful images on the cards should make giving the readings with them a lot easier. The structure of the routine is very satisfying.

Fantastic download!
I was fooled by almost every trick in it. The quality of the teaching, of the book and of the video are (as you would expect from Luke Jermay and Vanishing inc) impeccable.
There are only two things that might disapoint you in this project:
1) Most of the tricks require a gimmicked deck and have a reset: therefore they might not be suited for a walk around situation (Luke Jermay is aware of it and is completely honest with this in the project, but you might still want to know that when purchasing it).
2) The book is very small and contains more information about the making of the project than about the tricks themselves (you basically purchase a download).
This being said, the tricks are excellent and suitable for any card magician who wants to include them in their repetoire (Luke Jermay uses the cull throughout this project, and gives you great applications of this technique in the tricks). I didn't find the two points mentioned above problematic for the magic I do, therefore I rate this project 5 stars, and recommand it to any card magician!

Blessed Luke Jermay! One of the expenses that has been most worthwhile for me in recent months. Beyond the little book that accompanies this pack, the 19 videos included are the best that can fall into your hands. You will learn from one of the greatest mentalists in the world principles, techniques and ideas that will completely change the way you used to do magic. It is inspirational and encouraging. Impossible not to watch his videos without a deck of cards in your hand to try to clone his movements. Thanks Jermay!

One of the best features of this download is the emphasis on performance and showmanship, and you get to see Luke Jermay’s performance in each trick. This gives you an idea of the story to tell.

For me it’s all about creating a compelling story for a card trick that connects with the audience and creates a memorable experience.

Luke Jermay is absolutely amazing at creating a sense of mystery and intrigue in his story telling.

I am a big fan of Luke and some of his mentalism work, but this shows there are other sides to him that just that. There are some amazing tricks and some really great teaching of certain handlings which I found very useful. Definitely worth the price for the amount of content you get and with Luke you always know it will be of the highest quality.

I’ve read a few reviews about this particular collection and was uneasy about my purchase at first. Given that I love Mentalism and the works of Luke Jermay, Derren Brown, etc… it seems like this will be a good fit to my repertoire.

Having just bought Luke’s Marksman deck I’m thoroughly pleased with the quality of his work and can’t see why I wouldn’t be here. For this download.

Great trick. Luke's insights into psychology and his rationale and motives for how to craft a trick and why to do the things we do a certain way are very informative. Color Sense 2.0 has a deceptive method that makes it seem like you have real powers. His method requires some arts and crafts, which I love, but one could also purchase the necessary items pre-made. You should probably just get a corner rounder and an exacto blade anyway, if you don't own them already. They are necessary tools for any serious card magic enthusiast or performer.

What a great introduction to culling! Very informative.

This is an unusual, but very exciting release from Luke Jermay. Most of us know him from his fantastic work in the field of mentalism, but here he demonstrates his proficiency with a deck of cards.

As primarily a mentalist myself, I have not previous learned to cull or faro shuffle. Culling techniques are taught but the faro is not, and these are more advanced techniques which beginners in card magic would struggle with initially.
However, these effects are worth the extra study and, although I consider myself fairly adept at card moves, I will be putting in the work to perfect these.

The book itself is very small, but an interesting read alongside the effects.

I look forward to putting the work in to learn these effects, and soak up Luke’s experience and tips/tricks.

I absolutely love this latest evolution of the seeing-with-the-fingers plot. Takes a fair amount of preparation and then a lot of practice to get it smooth, but it really does seem to be the zenith of the work.

I really enjoy Luke's approach to both magic performance and teaching. I already tend to want to purchase his products because I know that I am likely to resonate with his performance style and enjoy his teaching methods.

That being said this package continues to hit the nail on the head for me. His focus on the balance between tension and relaxation flows through all of the tricks, and I enjoyed hie revamp of seeing with the fingertips. Zen throw is also quite a fun one.

I've been culling cards for over a decade and learned directly from Michael Vincent, but I still got some useful information from this video.

Luke covers different methods of culling and explains the differences between them and how some of these methods can be combined for certain purposes (whether you're culling just one or a few cards, larger groups like a whole suit, or if you're culling two 4-of-a-kinds and need to keep them separated as you cull them).

The only thing not covered was probably angles and how to cover the culled cards.

Luke Jermay is brilliant in explanations, detail and kindnesses.
And of course his effects are delightful and entertaining and not overly hard at all.

This is my first real look into the works of Luke Jermay, and I must confess myself intrigued, inspired and absolutely astounded by his methods and thought. There were a few gimmicked tricks I saw that I felt were overcomplicated, but it did nothing to diminish the genius behind any of it. Fantastic work by a fantastic mind!

This was excellent! I am excited to learn the benefits of using a double backer in the deck. I am now motivated to learn the farrow shuffle, as I have never before had the need to learn it, but I am now excited that there will be tricks that require me to learn this shuffle. I found that reading the book and then watching the video made it easier for me to internalize the information provided. I am very excited to continue!!!!

I really enjoyed that, some really good tips and variations on the cull that are clearly explained and not too difficult to do. I will be watching this again and am definitely looking forward to seeing everything else in this series/trick.
Can't wait to learn his version of out of this world!

Luke jermay is a brilliant thinker and probably my favourite teacher of magic because of all the details he goes into. His theory and thinking are one of a kind and I really really hope vanishing inc does more book/video projects of his work. It doesn’t get much better. Wonderful work guys.

Watching all the videos on "You're only lying to yourself", Luke Jermay is absolutely incredible. His method of storytelling during a routine, and his ideas for plots, are something I haven't seen in a lot of other magicians. This routine specifically is genius, I love the method and the simplicity.

I tend to agree with Matthew after reviewing most of the material. While I learned a few things that are within the reach of most magicians, I think the teaching on culling desired more detail in terms of technique and touch points. Luke makes it look easy! Yes, I like to practice and like the sense of accomplishment that it brings, but I would have appreciated deeper instruction into the culling techniques. I know he provides that information, and that was appreciated. However, this instruction only motivated to learn more cull techniques and put them to practice. As for the rest of the material, there were a couple novel ideas, but I can't find a place for them in my work.

Lastly, the book.... I thought I was getting a book printed in the same fashion as other VI books. This thing almost fits in my back pocket (4" x 5"), and it doesn't supplement the videos with the missing details, as I would have expected.

Do I like Luke as a skilled and knowledgeable performer? Absolutely! I just expected more from this set.

Some really unique ways at looking at card magic. Luke offers a lot of nice ideas for plot and presentation and I'll definitely be performing some of these effects.

"The best part? Everything is fairly easy to perform. These effects are not only within the range of any magician, but are also achievable by even those mentalists that rarely pick up a deck of cards."Really? A perfect faro and running cull are *easy*? I think a lot of non-card magicians, myself included, would disagree. I give this 1 star for the disingenuous ad copy.

The material itself tends to be very heavy on the preparations required. That's fine if the pay-off warrants it. But some of these effects here are very minor. I'm not sure they warrant a mainstream release, aside from for Jermay completions, let alone the effort you would have to put into making them up. Will anyone go to the effort and expense of purchasing the materials needed to perform the underwhelming "Look Here"? I'd be surprised. The strongest material has been released elsewhere, albeit in slightly different forms (Colour Sense, Zen Archer etc). I'd recommend checking it out in those other forms before looking here. Jermay is an incredible mentalist and I love everything else of his I've ever purchased, so I'm sad to be so critical. But as card magic, this falls short.
