Customer reviews for Peter Samelson Masterclass
All of the classes I have watched have been good, but this is the masterclass that I have seen yet. I say this for several reasons:
1. Mr. Samelson had a very clear and specific ideas of exactly what he wanted to teach.
2. The teaching was clear and thoughtful. While I thought that "running through the explanation again" wasn't needed because one can just watch the video again, this is a minor quibble.
3. The pieces (and these are theatrical pieces) were exceptional. These are not just ideas but full blown works.
4. The attention to detail was particularly good. See especially his points on the two-card monte turn-over move. Such a small thing, but it strengthens the illusion far out of proportion to the work.
Peter shares all his experience in magic ! His NY transpo is going directly in my repertoire !
the second lesson is more dedicated to close-up/ parlour magic with his beautiful ring and rope (with great ending climax).
I love all the extras that Peter added to make sure you undertans all the finesses. He his so professionnel with cameras, keynote etc !!
First routine was worth the cost
Excellent usable magic!
Peter Samelson has long been one of my favourite performers. He is an excellent teacher, and his material is knockout. This is a fantastic Masterclass from a genuine master. Highly recommended.
What an amazing first lecture!!!!! WOW, all workable stuff and such an thoughtful performer!!! Thanks Peter Samelson! Looking forward to the next 3 weeks! Worth every penny!
They're always amazing, and this week was no disappointment! Each trick presented was so ridiculously well thought out and structured that I will 100% be using ALL of them in the near future!
Impressive! Longer instructions need to be broken into modules. He’s an ever growing professional.
Peters lecture was superb; he is the consummate professional
Above all willing to disclose the real work
Thank you, Peter
Oh my! This is so good! Very practical magic using tricks you have known for years, maybe even some of your first ones, now with much improved handling and techniques! Very detailed instruction. We are learning some of the best from one of the best! Thanks Vanishing, Inc.!
Peter's presentations were a lot of fun, his explanations very detailed. A lot of information on improving a couple of classics. Very enjoyable session.
I have read Peter Samelson's book long ago. I like the in-person review of some of his effects and the improvements he has made. He is a really deep thinker.
Great! Peter is a true teacher and in depth analyzer of his work. What a pleasure to experience the results.
Solid, well-structured, engaging presentations and explanations of top-notch classic routines, emphasizing how each one evolved and was improved over the years... Informative & inspirational, thanks!... Looking forward to the rest of Peter Samelson's Master Classes!...
Body Snatchers is simply a masterpiece for those of us who loved that movie genre, and Peter’s close-up card story version of it is likewise a masterpiece. I actually like his earlier version more than the new one taught here. And I liked the original movie more then the remake. So there you go, Peter. Thanks for a reason to relive movies through cards.
A spectacularly superb masterclass from the 'soft-spoken conceptualist of sorcery'. The class was as I expected and more. Peter drew back the curtain upon his magical theatre and the bonus material was inspired. Every performing magician should join Peters congregation to learn the art of magic.
The first class alone was easily worth the cost, and the material that’s coming up is even better. I can’t believe how good this class is, you’d be a fool not to buy it.
Fantastic lecture!!! Keep them compact!!!
PS. Please book Max Maven too!!!
Pete Samelson in a master magician, working with cards, coins, finger rings, ring and a rope, and the list goes on. So many in our craft have ignored the ring and rope, the moves are just beautiful to watch and impossible to believe. Samelson is keeping these plots alive for the next generation. This Vanishing, Inc Masterclass is simply put, Top Notch!
Superb! Painstaking details of classic routines, with lots of useful touches. Much appreciated!
What an excellent Masterclass. Peter has such a unique, elegant style. He shares some classic hard-hitting pieces and sprinkles it with valuable theory. His passion for magic shines through. Invasion of the bodysnatchers is a favourite. Bravo!
fantastic ! thank you
I really loved the mix of events and stagecraft / routining.
Excellent! I felt as I was encountering a magical master in my very own one-on-one session. Thank you Peter and VI!
Delightful stroll inside the imaginative mind of Peter Samelson, as he generously shares ideas, methods, philosophies from his illustrious career ...
Fantastic material and wonderful teaching! Peter is so thoughtful in his performance and audience management! This was truly a master class of WHY, WHAT, and WHO! Thank you Peter for the wonderful magic!
There are a small number of performers, countable on one hand, who — every single time I see them work — give me the irresistible compulsion to jump into my notebook and feverishly dive into re-working my own material.
Seeing just how good magic can be in their hands, seeing the other levels it can work on, drives me to raise the level of my work.
Peter Samelson is high on that short list of artists. He creates material that is funny and joyful, but also material that is emotionally resonant without being cloying. He has created, in my view, THE definitive presentations of two classic pieces while making many other traditional plots fire on cylinders that ain’t in the rest of our engines.
Here Peter tips central pieces of his active repertoire (including, to my shock, his seminal presentation of Snowstorm in China, which virtually every contemporary presentation has copied in tone and basic story). Peter teaches these through the framework of the questions he asks while writing and developing his material. These are questions we would all do well to ask, again and again and again, of our own work.
The teaching moves at a fast pace, but everything is crystal clear (especially when studied along with the generous additional materials Peter provides, including several PDF manuscripts, performance videos, and even additional instructional videos beyond the lessons that allow him to go in greater depth than the weekly sessions allow).
There are marvelous technical details (an unpublished Steve Bedwell deck switch that is a thing of beauty, a far superior handling of a ring vanishing hank than the conventional approach, an unbelievably clean updated handling of Wild Card with Samelson's lovely script), but the real value here is seeing how he makes his work connect emotionally.
This is a gauntlet thrown down to raise the level of my magic, and I bet you find it pushing you in the same way.
Highly, highly recommended!
This third phase of Peter Samelsons Masterclass was full of various magical moments: funny comedy elements, very strong "story-telling" sense-making magic, and at the end the phenomenal "snowstorm". This effect alone with all its very thought out technics, detailed preparations in one extremely practical and useful collapsable stand is easily worth the price of the whole masterclass. And we all have to be thankful to Peter Samelsons for explaining every detail of his presentation. Many thanks for this awful Masterclass!!
I just finished the fourth session of the Samelson masterclass. It was WONDERFUL! Peter was kind, gracious, and warmly answered our questions for over an hour and a half.
This is the third of MC that I have been a part of and while all of them were good, this was IMHO by far the best. I am beyond glad that I spent the money to learn from this great artist.
Each of the weeks was great, but Mr. Samelson’s kind and winsome manner of answering questions in the fourth session was my favorite.
If you are looking for magic that has been through both a theatrical as well as a magical viewpoint, this is the class for you. Peter was more than well prepared each week and his tech setup was beyond anything that I have seen from any other magic lecture. It was clear, camera choices were great, and the thoroughness with which the lessons were prepared were beyond great.
I honestly hope that many, many will watch this class simply because it will make us all better. It will cause us all to think not only about tricks and methods, but about what we are saying and how we are making a particular spectator feel. Mr. Samelson’s advice about the ending to the paper balls over the head is incredible. Look for it, listen to him, leave poor planning and technique to others.
Highly, highly recommended. A bargain at twice the price.
Excellent class by one of the best stage performers in the world.
Top class presentations, explanations, insight and practical demonstration make the effects vibrant and relevant. I can’t wait to learn and follow at least one of these pieces if not them all!! Entertaining to watch, learn and execute.
