These gorgeous playing cards were specially designed by Luke Wadey as part of an exclusive three-part series devoted to embracing dynamic typography. In particular, it follows a popular Typographic Style known as “Swiss Style,” an often asymmetric principle that focuses on crisp, clean lines and readability. This typography is often aligned using hidden columns and rows, known as a grid principle, which also serves as the namesake for these collectable playing cards.
With Grid Typographic Playing Cards (Series Two) Luke looked to explore how this grid style can be taken to new heights. He introduced a variety of new elements, most notably a circle that creates a dial effect. With its bold words replacing illustrations and numbers, each card acts like a miniature poster, forming a beautifully minimalist design that is also incredibly functional.
Only 2,000 decks of Grid Typographic Playing Cards (Series Two) were ever produced. Each 56-card deck was printed on premium linen stock by the United States Playing Card Company.
