Masterclass by Farrell Dillon (75.00)

One of Las Vegas’ funniest and busiest magicians joins us for one of the most entertaining and insightful Masterclasses we’ve ever offered.

As the resident magician at Jimmy Kimmel’s Comedy Club in Las Vegas, Farrell Dillon performs for packed houses daily. The graduate of the Chavez School of Magic was also nominated for Best Stage Magician of the Year by the Magic Castle, and has made multiple national TV appearances—including performances on The Today Show and an astounding eight seasons of Masters of Illusion.

Beyond being a skilled sleight of hand artist and stunt performer, Farrell Dillon has an uncanny knack for understanding what will capture the attention of an audience and never let it go. By performing regularly for people from all over the world, he has uncovered the secrets for creating engaging routines that amaze and entertain audiences of any type. He’ll be sharing his favorite tricks and tips during this special three-week course.

The “Farrell Dillion Masterclass” includes two full-length 90-minute lectures followed by a live Zoom Q&A in the third week. In the last session, you’ll be able to join live and ask Farrell anything you want.

A real worker! Sleights galore and hours and hours of content. His teaching of card fanning and card fanning tips are worth the price of admission! Cards, balls, rings, its all here.

I like that he teaches tricks from his actual Vegas show. 2 of the routines taught were manipulation routines-cards and thimbles. These, of course, take a lot of practice. While interesting to learn some of the subtleties, not sure how practical this is for most of us. The rope routine taught was good.

This "Masterclass" is incredibly disappointing. Dillon goes back and forth between his live show in Vegas to his living room to teach a trick or give some pointers. His first bit is a card manipulation routine. I was stunned at how quiet his crowd was. Why were they quiet? Because the routine was actually quite boring. His instructions for card manipulations were good but his performance left me uninterested in trying card manipulation.

This happens throughout the so called "Masterclass". He does professor's nightmare with descriptive patter to a quiet crowd. Seriously? Professor's nightmare in a Masterclass? He does multiple tricks and then proceeds to tells us he can't teach it because it's not his. Thimble routine? It's pretty good. But it's Shoot Ogawa's and he tells us to buy his DVD. Card to pocket? It's Williamson's. Chair test? Not mine, go buy it from someone else. "Expensive but worth it". All of these things are a waste of my money and, more importantly, my time.

And do we really need to spend our time watching another linking ring routine? I think not. Or watching a straight jacket escape. Nope. This is just filler that wastes my time.

This Masterclass also suffers from what almost all of them do: poor production quality. During Covid it was okay to produce something with one guy with a camera in his living room. That's not okay anymore. For $50 (or $75!) the production quality should be better than what a teenager puts out in his bedroom with one camera. There should be proper lighting, editing and multiple camera angles.

Andi and Josh...I know you care. When you take your customers for granted and treat them with contempt you will lose them. Please step it up. Make sure a video that's called a "Masterclass" has master level material taught in it with high level production quality.
