In the early 1970’s, Jerry’s Nugget Casino in Las Vegas stored away tons of their new signature deck of cards. Originally designed for live table games, these playing cards never saw the light of day until nearly a decade later when they were re-discovered and put up for sale as a $2 per deck souvenir in the Jerry’s Nugget Casino gift shop.
One day, Lee Asher came across these interesting playing cards and became fascinated with their unique look and feel. He set out to spread the news about Jerry’s Nugget Playing Cards and their popularity began to grow.
By the fall of 1999, the entire stock of Jerry’s Nugget Playing Cards was gone—yet, demand continued to grow. These playing cards became the most highly sought after deck of cards ever printed by the USPCC. Bricks were selling on the secondary market for $100s, and sometimes, $1000s. Additionally, counterfeiters were also happily taking advantage of eager collectors with their incredibly realistic-looking fake decks of cards. Understanding the unwavering demand for easily-accessible, authentic, Jerry’s Nugget Playing Cards, Lee collaborated with Expert Playing Card Company on a mission to obtain the rights to reproduce these playing cards legitimately.
The licensing process was an immensely stressful period that took place over 3 years, but was ultimately well worth it.
