The effect is as good as I had hoped. The instructional video is a little lacking. Some over the shoulder shots would have helped and a little slower in the explaination.

I have several versions of the Torn and Restored Newspaper. This is a clever method. You will be able to adapt it to other magazine pages or something custom if needed. The instructions were well done and you will understand all you need to know both to perform and make custom versions if needed.

EXCELLENT!!! I will use this effect, I love the “new” method. Great design and demonstration. It is the best I have seen since Gene Anderson. Also, this is a very clear high-quality video that is easy to understand. I would give it at least 10 stars, if I could.

Review for “Don’t Blink” – Vanishing Inc. Magic

I just finished watching the tutorial for Don’t Blink. That’s one of the great features of Vanishing Inc. — they include the tutorial as soon as you purchase the trick, so you can dive right in.

The tutorial itself was very well done. It was clear, detailed, and handled any potential issues that might come up during performance. The effect has the simplicity of Slydini’s classic paper tear combined with the visual impact of Gene Anderson’s newspaper tear — a wonderful blend of elegance and strong visual magic.

I especially like that there’s a version allowing you to end clean and hand out the restored sheet. That’s a really nice touch that adds to the overall strength of the routine.

I’m looking forward to receiving the gimmick and adding Don’t Blink into my show. This looks like a solid, practical piece of magic that I’ll be proud to perform.

As a "Torn and Restored" (TaR) this does the job.

On the up side, the method is relatively easy to learn.
And, with almost no newspapers being printed these days, a magazine is more "natural".
The video instruction is very good. Being dyslexic, I especially appreciate the "over the shoulder" view of the handling. The teaching is clear for preparing the materials. The gimmick is provided; and, my guess is that it is "universal" in that it will work with other magazine pages.

The down side of all TaR effects is lots of Arts and Crafts time. Get out your glue sticks and get ready to get knacky with applying the tape. However, to the positive, one can make up materials in advance, if doing multiple shows.

Not sure if this will work with name-brand magazines. Another difficulty with TaR tricks is you've got to obtain multiple copies of one issue -- unless you're willing to tear one set of pages, and restore it as another!

Have a question about this product? It's possible others do too. Ask here and other Vanishing Inc. Magic customers will be able to respond with assistance! Alternatively, email us and we can help too.

  • Bill asks: Is it customizable only once? Or can you use the same gimmick again with a different page?

    • 1. Yvan answers: You can probably customize the gimmick multiple times, but since the gimmick is never seen, it might be overkill.

  • Rick asks: "Twenty refill sheets to get you started immediately." Does this mean you need to buy more refill sheets when you run out?

    • 1. Frank answers: The email said after the refills you can use any magazine.
    • 2. ZAP answers:
    • 3. Yvan answers: The video teaches you how to make the sheets. The refills are just to get you started

  • Andy asks: Can the restored page be handed out as a souvenir?

    • 1. Yvan answers: No, not with the regular handling. But in the video, there’s an idea for how to end clean.

  • Andy asks: another question: Can it be done with a tabloid size newspaper?

    • 1. Yvan answers: I haven't tried but as long as it's a bi-folded (folded down the middle) it should be fine.

  • Eric asks: Can I take 2 pages out of a magazine attach the gimmick and I'm ready to go?

    • 1. Yvan answers: The setup requires a bit more work than that, but you can use any magazine pages.

  • Brian asks: If I master this can I tell people I’m apart of Garmy’s Army?

  • Charlie asks: Can this be instantly repeated? i.e. once set up, can it be done over and over until wanting to customise it?

    • 1. Yvan answers: No it can’t. Assuming everything has been set up, moving the gimmick from one magazine to the next takes only a few seconds, but you wouldn’t want to do it in front of spectators!

  • Ian asks: You mentioned it works well with 'Glance'. I am assuming that you wouldnt be taking a page out of this 'book test' magazine to do the tear? The two, although compatible with looks, are seperate effects?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: They are separate effects just the same, in case you want to combine.
  • Marc asks: Can we make the gimmick our self or do we need to buy more to have more gimmicks?

    • 1. Yvan answers: In the download, you'll learn how to prepare additional magazine pages. There's no need to buy refills. The gimmick itself can be reused endlessly.

  • Paul asks: How different is this to the Destroyed and Restored John Lovick describes in the Handsome Jack Book, please?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: It's a completely different method.
  • Harry asks: After glancing at the instructions, it looks like if you want to have a different torn section restored , you are going to have to buy 4 similar magazines. At $7 a magazine...looks like that is another outlay of money. If you want to restore the same page, you will have to buy two same magazines (and same as the original page) each time you perform this. Is this true?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: You'll need a new page each time if you want to tear it. You can also have the pieces already torn up and then restore them, which requires no reset. Also, any magazine or newspaper can work, so you can even use junk mail to do this.
