Magic download (video) by Andi Gladwin (12.00)

One undisputed highlight from Andi Gladwin's shows and lectures is "Aura," in which a spectator finds her own card from a genuinely shuffled deck. The routine is three phases, each more impossible than the last, and it's nearly self-working.

Due to some devious, yet simple, gimmickry, "Aura" is essentially self-working. Andi takes you through everything you need to know in this thirty-minute download, and even gives you multiple variations and ideas to make the effect your own.

Whether you're performing in casual or formal situations, "Aura" is set to be your new closer.

Running time: approximately 30 minutes

Andi, when I saw your performance of this, I knew I had to put it in my act. Man, this routine is brilliant! I love magic that tells a story and this one can be changed in so many ways to fit the mood or occasion (I'm working on a Halloween adaption: "Three Ghosts") It flows logically and simply but I added a "Cut Deeper" force at the start to make it even simpler. You guys are quickly becoming my favorite magic store, brother. Keep 'em coming'!

SUMMARY: An ingenious routine, ending with a spectator drawing their own card from a shuffled deck

OVERVIEW: Andi Gladwin's "Aura" is one of those satisfying card tricks that is not only a good effect in itself, but comes with a very gripping storyline and plot, and a wonderful presentation that really makes it terrific. With this effect, Andi has created a very emotional hook that gets your spectators personally involved in a way that makes the outcome seem even more magical and surprising. The premise? A spectator finds their own card from a genuinely shuffled deck! Best of all, many aspects of it are almost self-working.

EFFECT: Three spectators each get a card, chosen apparently at random. Then the deck is genuinely and thoroughly shuffled by a spectator - and this is no stooge, the cards really are well and truly mixed! Now the magician proceeds to produce all three cards, each in a more surprising manner than the last. The most stunning revelation is the final one, when the third spectator reaches into the magician's pocket and selects a random card from the deck - and it proves to be his selection! At the end all the cards of the deck are spread face-up to show that they are all different. Andi's presentation deserves special mention here - he explains how sometimes people can feel vibrations and have a connection with an object, and it's this premise that is key to how he goes about finding the three chosen cards. Do check the video of the official trailer and see Andi's complete performance!

VIDEO: What you get for your money is an instant digital download of the video, which demonstrates and teaches the routine, with Andi explaining everything. The entire video is just under 30 minutes long, and is filmed in high quality. The video begins with the four minute performance shown in the trailer, after which Andi briefly explains some of the ideas behind the effect before going into teaching the different phases of the routine. The bulk of the video features Andy on camera, talking and demonstrating how everything works.

TEACHING: Andi has a very conversational and natural style of speaking, and also organizes his explanation very carefully and precisely. There's tons of useful material here, and he'll give you far more information than you actually need. But that's terrific - for example in the process of his teaching he offered a useful tip about improving and disguising a break that I found very helpful for improving my technique generally. He also covers the handling of a basic F in a helpful way. In addition he gives a lot of extra ideas that you can consider and work with in order to customize the effect to make it your own, and even discusses different methods to accomplish aspects of the routine. So the teaching is excellent, very thorough, and gives you a lot to work with.

METHOD: The method for finding the first card is ingenious; it's so simple, and yet something I'd never considered before. Brilliant and easy! The method of gradually eliminating cards is very clever, because this presentation supports the method and makes it easier, actually disguising the secret. Other methods are possible to achieve a similar result, and Andi does mention these, most of which will already be familiar to magicians, but I really love his idea. The method for finding the second card and third card is more or less what I expected, and other magicians were also quick to suspect the method used. Even while it may not be a magician fooler, it will definitely leave lay-people completely amazed, even though it is essentially self-working at that point.

DEVELOPMENT: Another strength of this routine is how it builds up to the climax. Rather than doing three separate card tricks, Andi would rather build up a single routine involving three cards, thus having more magic operating in a smaller space of time. It helps strengthen the final phase in which the spectator is more involved.

PRESENTATION: The whole "aura" concept that Andi uses as the storyline also adds a great deal to the presentation and impact. He uses the idea of touching the spectator's finger in connection with the idea of feeling vibrations and making a connection, and this "touch" really helps add to the presentational value of the performance.

DIFFICULTY: The method Andi has come up with is very clever, and once you get to a certain stage of the trick, you are home free, and it's hard to go wrong from there. But that doesn't mean this is an easy trick to do, especially because you will need to master an important F early on, which Andi does explain carefully and in detail, although most magicians will already know this technique. You do need to be quite set-up in order to perform this trick, which includes having a gimmicked deck, and even some optional clothing alterations that Andi explains at length. This shouldn't put you off - they're easily accomplished yourself, aren't anything major, can easily be restored - and are optionaly because Andi does go on to explain an alternate "alterationless" handling that makes them entirely unnecessary and even has an easier handling, the only disadvantage being you won't end clean. So in terms of difficulty, I'd consider this at the "intermediate" level, mainly because of the set-up and gimmicks required, and the need to master a particular F. Some solid work on the presentation is also important.

IMPRESSIONS: Aura is more than just another card trick - it's a very well thought out and cleverly presented routine, where all aspects of method and presentation have been carefully tested by Andi over time. He's worked on this routine very intensely, and mentions that he must have tried ten different versions over the years. The final version that he teaches is something he's used himself for at least three years, and it's proven successful, and that's why he felt it was ready to be published. While his preferred method is perhaps the best and cleanest, he also discusses various other ideas that you could use as part of this routine, and various ways to achieve a similar result, so there is considerable flexibility built in if his way of doing parts of the routine isn't a good fit for you. The trick does also require some investment of time and resources, and isn't something you can do at a moment's notice with a borrowed deck - although you certainly could lead into this from another trick. So some set-up and planning is definitely required, and you will need the right cards at your disposal to make things work, but the payoff is well worth all this!

RECOMMENDATION: Andi is a skilled magician, who not only can come up with creative and ingenious ideas, but also excels in teaching them clearly and presenting them well. Aura is a fine example of a quality and compelling routine with card magic that working magicians will want to consider.

I will describe this in only one word… Wow! Very powerful magic, this is something you will add to your repertoire for your formal shows. Don’t think about it, just buy it. Thank you Andi for sharing this amazing piece of magic

The effect is easy to understand. It appears to increase in difficulty to the audience. It naturally and organically gets the audience involved, the storyline is intriguing, what more could you want? It is fairly easy to do, the method is clever, the handling can be learned in less than 5 minutes for anyone familiar with a deck of cards.

I needed to perform at a business function, I used this effect as the opener to a speech on networking and getting to know people on a more intimate level. Needless to say it was the perfect introduction and a strong piece of magic to drive home the point.

The first two ways you find a card are cool and simple enough. The final way the spectator finds the card needs a special deck which you would need to purchase separately if you do not have it. You could probably just adapt the trick to two phases but it would be missing the kicker ending.

Beautifully explained!!! I very much enjoyed this and hope everyone will too!!! I know that the jacket thing puts off but you did mention how to without it so just perfect!!! Everyone should definitely get this and I can't wait to perform this to all my friends and family

A great trick, a great routine, comes with a demo, followed by a very well explained tutorial, including how too with the selections, plus the different options for the outs are all explained on how too, although the spectator will not be aware off this, i like the bicycle card explanation, you will no what l mean by this when you get this tutorial. Once you no the method, get the presentation down, and the rest of the magic will just flow. Its a very deviouse fun trick to do.

First off, Andi is a truly incredible teacher and master magician. He has a likeable style and understandable explanations. This miracle is a head scratcher, but because you need a jacket I would say its not for beginners. I never wear a jacket thus never perform any magic in one.
the method is genius and it should be used as a closer and stand back and take the applause.
get this miracle at the affordable price, you won't be disappointed.

Such a cool effect! Very easy to perform and super powerful for layman. The method is simple and easy to perform, but doesn’t take away from the effect at all. It is an extremely entertaining presentation and you will love performing it.

This was a “points” premium for me. The reviews looked more than solid, so I took a chance. And what an ingenious routine this is. My only beefs are that a) my dribble force is terrible because I can’t get the hang of a proper card dribble in the first place, and b) I don’t know if I can muster the courage to cut through the seam of an expensive sport coat. Yes, if you wish to perform the routine exactly as Andi so beautifully does it, you must accomplish each of these feats. But I’ve got everything else I need, and it’s a trick worth performing for the big reactions it promises, so…watch this (or some other) space…

This was a freebie I purchased by redeeming points, and I’m happy I did. Andi is an excellent instructor with scads of ideas about handling, subtleties of the most mentalism-y touches of the trick’s effects, and audience management. Unfortunately I may need to make changes to his routine due to a) a straightforward sleight that I nevertheless always have trouble with, and b) the need to alter irrevocably a piece of clothing for the sake of parts 2 and 3 of the effect. Still, the 1-2-3 punch of the effect is too good for me NOT to want to emulate Dani’s handling as closely as possible. Having acquired the necessary gimmicks (and there are a couple, though most serious amateurs will have at least one of the two), I’m going to give this a go in spite of the snags.

This video sets the standard for teaching a new trick. 1) It starts with a great routine; 2) The presentation is very well-organized and logically constructed; 3) the explanation is extremely clear and thorough, without over-dwelling on points; 4) Andy has a great sense of humor; 5) there are multiple performance options offered up, to help all of us who come in with varying levels of skill. I could go on, but won't. Thank you for a great routine, easily understood and which made me immediately put together the various pieces needed to perform this. I'll even modify my suit coat...

Always a pleasure to listen to Andi. Great trick, great ideas, great presentation, great magician. The explanations are absolutely clear, you can see that Andi´s intention is not for him to get it done, but for you to learn and understand. I would totally recommend this to anyone, specially if you´re looking for strong openers!

Yeah excellent constructive thought process is what level this routine follows. Dare I say that the pocket lining switch is like a psuedo Topit of sorts and operates quite deviously, out of sight out of mind, and is a miniscule sacrifice of the lining, for a powerhouse result. I did think that a one way deck was in play, to begin with, but was unable to reconstruct the possible pathway, where the deck could possibly have been effectively switched, so that notion was quickly dispelled, due to the fact that the spectator has freedom to rummage around, in an attempt to produce the selection. Absolute Diamond Deception and Brain numbing entertainment. This is Stellar!!! Thanks for sharing it.

I wasn't sure how to spend my points and I decided why not and boy was it a great decision. I can't wait to start performing this, it is a very strong and impossible effect. Andi goes into great detail on the explanation and is a very good teacher when explaining. I would recommend this to any serious closeup/ parlor performer.

“Aura” is a great performance piece that allows each magician to customize the presentation to suit their individual style. You have three spectators select cards from a deck, and those cards are returned to the deck and later found in an impossible manner. The mechanics of the trick are simple, so the performer can relax and focus on entertainment— and isn’t that really what makes a magic performance a winner? As I interpret this trick, its heart and soul is in how you interact with each spectator. You might see it as a chance to play up the card locations. This effect affords many opportunities.

This is a very interesting routine for parlour conditions! The method is well thought and additional handlings have been provided. It requires some dressing preparation and a special deck you might already own.

Great trick and very easy to perform. Leaving you to easily be comfortable and open with you're audience. Taught very well with multiple set ups. Even those who perform the most difficult of magic ,should be using this routine. You'll totally enjoy the amazement of your crowd. With principles that can be applied and fit in nicely . I use the last phase for spec chooses and deals to their card almost works itself.
