Astonishing Essays - Lawrence Hass (Volume 4)
In 2006, Dr. Lawrence Hass did the unthinkable. He left his job as a tenured Professor to pursue close-up magic as a full-time profession. Against the odds, his magic business is thriving, he is content in his work, and he is happy.
“I’ve learned a lot through this life change, about myself certainly, but also about magic as a pursuit and a profession,” Larry says in the introduction to Dying to Change, “I have ideas to share about what magic is as an entertainment and an art form, and about what’s required to perform it successfully.”
Magic books usually deal with card stacks and finger positions for sleights. Dying to Change is about magic, but also about life.

Customer reviews for Astonishing Essays - Lawrence Hass (Volume 4)
A terrific short essay.
Absolutely terrific and useful and thoughtful and professional and helpful information . . . can you tell that I think this is something everyone needs to read??!!
Dr Haas has performed a service to magicians with this volume. His bare bones explanation of what he went through to completely change careers and what he does today to further his understanding is a very good read. It is equal to Steve Cohen's Evergreen in the advice given.
This was a good read giving an insight into what it's like to change from a muggle to magician. If it hadn't been part of the set I probably wouldn't have chosen to pick this up and read but I'm glad I did and have so far learnt something from each essay even if it's learning what not to do rather than what to do
