David Roth's innovative thinking and attention to detail changed coin magic forever. He created coin magic that was so precise and clean that it looked like real magic. He is arguably magic's greatest coin artist and teacher, and now you can learn directly from the master.

"First let me state that David Roth is truly a genius. T. Nelson Downs, Allan Shaw, Manuel and Welch Miller all specialized in this branch of the magical art. David's ideas and execution far surpass any one of them. I feel quite certain that if they could witness his performance, they would not only be astounded but realize that they had seen the master." What a great coin set for the price and with the David Roth tutorials included make this a steal!
My only gripe is the same as other reviewers here, that there could’ve been 5 of each coin to help with particular routines taught. Though having said at this price I’m tempted just to buy it again as it such a good price to get extra coins!
If you’re just getting started in coin magic then this is the perfect place to start.

I had the original VHS tapes back in the day but they were damaged. Great price ( plus coins!) and format for ongoing review and inspiration. Thank you!

Excellent coin set which comes in a quality sealed box, for anyone who wants to get into coin magic, or brush up, I find it useful to revisit re cap to keep myself in check, you get 3 Hours plus run time videos, which you can stream, and download these, you get three separate videos, looking.forward to learning these, I received my videos prior to receiving my coins which was great, very enjoyable.to watch, I've dabbled in coins before But this is a such a great set it got me motivated to want to learn more.

This is a great set to start exploring coin magic, with a couple of drawbacks.

The actual teaching by David Roth is amazing, as you would expect - this is a remaster from his earlier DVD set, an is an invaluable resource for sleight of hand with coins.

The coins themselves are really nice - being a Brit with very little experience with US coins, they look and feel great.

The major downside however, is that the set only included 4 replica half dollars and 4 replica dollars. A fifth of each set would have been really useful, and the lack of an expanded shell is a real shame.
I would have happily paid double if these extras were included.

But what you do get is fantastic, and I would recommend this set to anyone looking to get into coin magic - just be aware you will need to buy extras in order to make this set truly complete.

I will cover the coins and the videos separately here.

First the coins. The coins are fine enough. To my hand they are a little thicker, and a little more heavy than the real thing, but not so much that they are unusable. They are ages artificially with some dark stuff to make them look like they have been in circulation for quite a while, and the effect is quite nice. Personally I would have preferred the coins to be more shiny, but that is personal preference, I like a shiny coin. The coins are not smooth so they do make a noise if they slide over each other. All in I think someone looking to get started with coin magic will find these coins good enough to get going with, and will provide quite a bit of mileage.

Not to the videos.

The real selling point of this set is the David Roth video downloads that come with it. These videos are remasters of the original VHS that up the picture quality a bit. Unfortunately the second video has been edited in such a way that some content is inexplicably missing. After the tutorial for the click pass it skips a good chunk of content and jumps to about half way through to the explanation of a coin production routine. You don't see the routine, and the explanation is only half there. This happens a couple more times after this, showing only half finished content.

After the Click pass there should be the coin through table routine, and the hanging coins, but they are missing, and the following content is incomplete.

The second volume of the series would be hard for someone learning to follow, and would have at least two very high quality effects missing entirely.

While the video picture and audio quality is high, the actual content of the videos is incomplete, and as such very poor indeed. I see no reason why these edits would have been made, or how they would not have been noticed before release.

While the coins are of passable quality, I would try and find the complete videos with all the content from another source.

Buyer beware

1) video states full set of coins, add copy states complete set of coins. ( only 4 of each supplied )Several of his most famous effects require
5th coin. I won’t get into a turtle

2) the videos are digitally copy of VHS. There is a lot of information, but without a menu give you direct access to what you want to learn or get back to something your working on. It is extremely lazy and poor thought that a menu was not added.

In this modern age and a very large company like Murphys
That specializes in Magic to make this big of blunder.

What I hope happens

1) They add a menu

2) They offer even at an additional cost the remaining coins needed. It’s very frustrating to try and match coins,

But mostly being a Magician it’s very exciting to get a new magic effect, and when you can’t fully use it, it’s frustrating and sad. It makes you cautious to purchase any other product.

  • Reed asks: Maybe it’s the dramatic moody lighting, but the coins look dark. I do like patina for contrast, but it’s hard to tell how bright the shiny areas might be. Could we see a shot with more clinical light, to see what they really look like?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: This are the only images/videos we have received from the supplier
  • Sydney asks: Could you soften the coins or is it not possible with this set?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: You could soften the coins but they are replicas so you'll want to soften them differently that real coins.
  • Erik asks: is the weight of the coins same as real coins?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Yes
  • Adam asks: Are any of the coins gimmicked or are they all normal?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: The coins are all normal replica coins.
  • Christopher asks: Could you recommend a matching shell that could go with the Liberty's and Morgans?

    • 1. Steve answers: In sync with Bill’s response/question and your response to him, the buyer does not get what they need to perform many tricks using the sun/moon, ‘5th’ Coins, and others. All you did was just change the name of the product, omitting ‘complete’. Can you then please tell me the usability of an ‘incomplete set’ of these coins? Will Vanishing also sell a supplement set of coins?

  • Bill asks: What exactly is a "complete set" of coins? The list of tutorials includes a Copper & Silver routine but I see no mention of copper coins so not really "complete" in that sense. Likewise, Wild Coin would be weaker in effect and harder to do if they Wild Coin was a Morgan and the regular coins were Walking Liberties. And while you could do Milliken's Transposition with dollar sized coins and halves it would be pretty tough for most students. Also, since some of the material uses the one ahead/extra object principle are there more than 4 of each coin? Because if you want to do David's Chink-A-Chink routine you'll need 5 of a kind.

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: You're right, that's confusing. We've now edited the copy to remove the word complete. Thanks for flagging that.
  • Justin asks: How many coins are included in the set? Does it include any gimmicks?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: You get 8 un gimmicked replica coins
  • John asks: Are the coins Magnetic

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: They are not.
  • Daniel asks: How smooth and noisy are the coins when rubbed together? Do there slide against each other nicely?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: They're not soft coins. So will be as smooth and noisy as any non-soft coins.
  • James asks: If the coins aren’t gimmicks, why are they replicas? I’m a beginner so don’t understand this.

    • 1. Alexei answers: Replicas in a sense that the coins are not authentic and cannot be used as medium of exchange or store of value (unlike coins that have been minted for the purpose of circulation). Replicas, as the name suggests, are "fake" coins (or copies) based on "real" coins.
Post an answer to this question
  • James asks: Thanks for your response Alexei. However it doesn’t really answer my question. Why are replica coins used instead of real coins, is there a good reason for this?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Real silver Walking Liberty and Morgan coins would make the set retail and many hundreds of dollars. Using replicas means it is much more affordable. You could, of course, buy real silver coins yourself and use them should you wish.
  • Ofir asks: are the download files in better quality than the dvd'S?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Yes they are!
  • Mark asks: Will there be extra coins/matching gimmicked coins available for purchase? Would love to get one extra of each coin, along with expanded shells and a copper/silver coin

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Not at this time but the replicas would match many of the gaffs out there.
