Produced and popularized by Card Shark, "Get Sharky" by Christopher Borer is an award-winning effect that allows a named card to disappear from a deck of cards and appear in your pocket. It has been a perennial besteller for over 10 years. It's long been unavailable, but is finally available again in both red and blue Phoenix decks with standard faces.

"Get Sharky" is in the arsenal of many professional magicians. The simplicity and safety of the method makes it a no-brainer. It's truly brilliant and has been performed around the world and on numerous television performances.

Here is how the core routine goes:

The magician offers to show a card magic trick that requires only one hand. They reach their hand into their pocket and then hold up a deck of playing cards in their other hand. The spectator is instructed to peek at a card.

With no suspicious moves or awkward moments, the deck of cards is casually handed to the spectator to handle freely. The magician then snaps their fingers and invites the spectator find their card in the deck. But they are unable to do so. They can even deal the cards to the table one at a time if they want. Their chosen card has vanished.

The magician then slowly removes their hand from their pocket to show they are holding the selected card.

I really, really like this trick. It’s a very refined version of Max Maven’s Pocket Nightmare. Although Christian Borer makes clear that Max owns his presentation, it’s much better than the one-armed magician that he suggests (and uses).

So, I took this with me to a big event I was hired to do. I had several standard tricks I do, but decided to give this a try. Wow. Everyone was shocked when I pulled their card out of my pocket. this is one I'll be taking to all gigs from now on! Highy recommend this.

Let me start by saying I'm not a professional magician. I barely qualify as an amateur magician. I'm simply one of those guys who always has something in my pocket to amaze family members or drunken friends at bars. So my sleight of hand skills are close to nil. When I saw Get Sharky, even though it said no sleight needed, I was skeptical. This trick looked so awesome, I figured there had to be SOMETHING I'd have trouble doing. But I took the chance and ordered, and I'm glad I did. Within 5 minutes of opening the package, I had my family's jaws on the floor wondering how I'd mastered such a professional looking piece of trickery. It's brilliant in its simplicity; no one can imagine how it's done yet when I read the instructions I did one of those "how did I not think of that" headsmacks. So simple, so easy, yet so baffling to anyone you show it to. And it's adaptable; I've already abandoned the suggested routine and figured out other fun ways of presenting the payoff. Anyone on the fence, order this! I'm tickled to death by this trick.

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: The methods are completely different. Get Sharky allows a free display of the cards and the spectators and really spread through all of the cards. Also, the card can be different every time.

  • Francesco asks: If the card can be different every time, we know a priori before the performance, what it will be and will we put the equivalent in our pocket? Do I need to have a regular Phoenix deck to choose which prediction card to put in my pocket?
