Heist by Jack Wise

A Perfect Opening Routine

It's rare to find practical, visual parlor magic, and rarer still to find good opening effects. With "Heist" you have a perfect, magical and impressive opener for your parlor show.

Based on Tommy Wonder's classic "Ring, Watch, Wallet" effect (a trick with a one-hundred year history), Irish stand-up comedian and magician Jack Wise has reimagined the workings of this trick so that they are far more practical and reliable than previous versions.

The plot is simple and stunning: you place your watch, ring, and the money from your wallet inside an envelope. In a flash, you tear up the envelope and allow the pieces to flutter to the floor! Then you instantly show the watch back on your wrist, the money back in your wallet, and the ring back on your finger. A quick, impressive opener for stage or close-up!

  • A quick, impressive opener using props that you wear!
  • Perfect for close-up and stand-up performances
  • Includes all required props (including good quality gimmicked watches and wallet)
  • Complete with everything you need all inside a beautiful storage case
  • Detailed instructional download featuring Andi Gladwin

Some of the top professional magicians in the world have already been using "Heist" as a feature of their show. It is now finally available again with new props and updated instructions.

Meet Jack Wise

They say that the best magicians are too busy performing to become known to the magic industry. In Jack Wise's case, that is absolutely true. He is one of Ireland's busiest magicians (having performed for the president, and many Irish celebrities) and is a frequent comedy club headliner. His performances at festivals receive rave reviews and have taken him around the world.

Jack designed "Heist" to be a gag-packed stand-up comedy opener, but eventually included the routines in his close-up and walkaround performances too.

Modern Crime - Andi Gladwin's Handling

Along with Jack Wise's full handling, you'll learn Andi Gladwin's full "Modern Crime" handling and presentation that makes the opening of your show interactive, funny and jaw-droppingly-magical. Andi has used this presentation and handling to open his performances for the past five years and now he's sharing his full routine and presentation. (Note that for Andi's handling, you'll need to supply your own PK Ring.)

"One of the most practical, thought out, and fooling versions of Ring, Watch and Wallet. I've been using Heist in every show." —Kyle Marlett
"I think Tommy Wonder would agree that Heist presents a very practical method for this classic routine." —Ryan Oakes
"Three vanishes, three appearances, a fun and humorous story all within 90 seconds. That’s a pretty strong way to open your show and establish yourself as a skillful entertainer to your audience." —Genii magazine

Good parlor tricks are hard to find. After practice and your getting your timing down I believe this lets your audience know that you are a real magician. I also love the way Andi explains his routine which is classic.

This is brilliant I have been sitting on the fence for a while and so glad I hit the order button.

Will soon be in my working set .

Such a great effect. Andi and Jack really simplified things and made this something I'm actually excited to perform. The gimmicks and handlings allow to focus on my performance and not fumble with everything as I did in other versions I've done. If you do this classic, you'll love these updates to a wonderful piece of magic.

First of all, I have loved this plot since I saw the Tommy Wonder performance on the old Vision of Wonder videos. The issue of course what Tommy's version required a very complex and expensive hookup that has been made available in recent years for $1200.

With practice, this version will get you close to what Tommy did for 1/10th the price. And, I believe this version has a few advantages over Tommy's. First of all, in placing the watch and money into the envelope, you actually place them in the envelope. Secondly, you can perform this version with a shirt and an over-shirt. You don't absolutely have to have a jacket. This is harder than using a formal jacket, but I have tried it and it will work. Also, because of the way the setup works, you don't have to do this as an opener whereas with the TW version you pretty much had to do it as an opener.

The overall instruction is solid and tells you everything you need to know to do the trick and Andy specifically points out the area that he practiced hundreds if not a thousand time to get performance ready. I thought all of that was quite good.

My negatives about this are:
1) The video included did not include any live performance video. I had to go to a competitors site to see both Andy and Jack perform this.
2) There is no discussion about other methods, like the Tommy Wonder method for stealing back the ring. Tommy's method would absolutely work here and I don't know why that isn't covered. It isn't as if that method is somehow specific to Tommy. It is a method used in lots of tricks.
3) There was no discussion about potentially using different kinds of envelopes and why you might want to try something different. I tried something more like what TW used and it has some very specific advantages that make the dropping of the watch and money look more compelling.

Overall, I still give it 5 stars because for $99 (and in my case it was on sale for $59) this is is a real miracle and if you do use it as an opener, it announces to the audience in about 90 seconds that you aren't uncle Bob doing some magic tricks. It really sets a tone and the props are well made and should last a long time.

This is absolutely incredible. I remember seeing Andi perform this at a lecture, and I was kicking myself for not picking it up then. Though getting this during the Black Friday sale is amazing. This is easily worth triple what I paid for it. I can't wait to start performing this.

Great trick. I actually now enjoy tricks where I have to put a bit of work in to perfect it. I used to dread it and often sold things because I didn't want to put the work in! But now I actually enjoy it. My one tip is when you are fairly good at a trick film yourself, a phone will do. It enables you to see how it looks from the spectators point of view...invaluable! I'll be starting on this one first thing tomorrow. Very clever little touches to an already great effect. Well done everyone involved. I am pleased I ordered this and am sure it will get a lot of use.

This is my holy grail effect, my #1 and most fav premise of all time. I really love the teaching that ANDY does and the props with updated method/Gimmick are fantastic. This is a classic and will go down as one of magics greatest effects, it's just fun!

Tutorial is very good. The instructions as to performing this effect are clear and defined. The effect itself is entertaining and can keep the audience interested, if performed calmly and not rushed. The props and gimmick are very good quality. "Heist" is an excellent purchase and should provide the performer with many great moments of entertaining an audience. Highly recommended.

Official review from Genii Magazine

From the February 2016 Genii magazine. Reviewed by David Oliver

IN A WORD: Opener. Establishing yourself to an audience at the top of your show can be a daunting task. Jack Wise has met that challenge with his own take on a classic routine.

Three vanishes, three appearances, a fun and humorous story all within 90 seconds. That’s a pretty strong way to open your show and establish yourself as a skillful entertainer to your audience.

This is the rare unicorn of an effect that not only meets, but exceeds expectations! It is packaged beautifully, presented simply, and very well thought through. You'll want to take this out for a spin immediately, but you should fight that urge - spend the extra time it will take to write something that makes sense for who you present yourself as when you perform. The sequence of events present in this effect can shatter spectator realities - they will leave your shows thinking you are Keyser Söze. Very happy, would highly recommend!

Official review from MAGIC Magazine

From the July 2015 MAGIC Magazine. Reviewed by Peter Pitchford

The incomparable Tommy Wonder took Oswald Williams’ plot of being mugged and the stolen items magically reappearing and completely reworked it into something very special. I and many others have longed to perform Tommy Wonder’s The Ring, the Watch, and the Wallet but have been hindered by the expense of purchasing it or by the lack of technical knowledge and tools to create it. Jack Wise is offering a streamlined and inexpensive alternative to Wonder’s version.

Updating my previous review which was 5 stars down to 4 because the watch band broke during rehearsal (fortunately) and I had to get two new bands. While not a big deal since I had the implement to remove the pins holding the band in, it was a big inconvenience to have to run out and find a band with a magnetic clasp. it does speak to the quality of the product which I had previously had stated was great, and now, less than a year later, the band is broken and that really should not have happened.

Have a question about this product? It's possible others do too. Ask here and other Vanishing Inc. Magic customers will be able to respond with assistance! Alternatively, email us and we can help too.

  • Chris asks: Anyone know where I can find a replacement pull? Velvet covered mag?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Feel free to email us and we can help.
  • Danny asks: I have this and found the pull to be terrible, what is everyone doing with the pull, the elastic is not strong enough and does not snap back like it should, any replacement ideas?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: The pull should not snap back, else it would create movement in the back of the jacket. It should help move the objects, but it should not harshly pull back. Feel free to email us for further questions.
  • Keith asks: Can this be done close up without fear of detection? Are the moves well hidden from the audience and fairly easy to pull off?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: I think this is more of a parlour trick, your audience needs to be opposite you ideally, and not to the side of you. It might work around tables but I wouldn't recommend it for mix and mingle.
  • Ray asks: What is the best type of ring is required as it does not come with the trick?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Any ring that comfortably slips on and off your finger will work.
  • Dave asks: Would I be correct in assuming this has clothing requirements? Jacket required?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Yes, a jacket is required.
  • Gary asks: Is a jacket required? If so, is there a workaround if you perform with no jacket?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Yes, a jacket is required for this routine.
  • Daniel asks: Is there a reason the watch placed in the envelope has a metal strap but the one on the wrist has a leather one? Was a glaring error to me as many clients I perform for are watch enthusiasts and would spot this. Could you use your own watches or is this part of the gimmick?

    • 1. Philip answers: Watch the video again...the watch is a metal strap in both cases.
Post an answer to this question
  • Gary asks: Is a PK ring required for this effect? If so, is it included?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: No. You provide your own ring
  • Rick asks: I bought Heist just a couple of months ago. Are the props different/updated/improved in this re-release? Also, is there away previous purchasers can receive the updated instructions? Thanks! - Rick

    • 1. SGKYDUYEN answers: Please email magic@vanishingincmagic for this kind of question

  • Robert asks: Are you able to perform this just as Tommy Wonder did. Are the props the same as Tommy’s. Thanks!

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: The props are different than Tommy's version but you will be able to perform a similar routine.
  • Chris asks: Do the watches that are supplied function as a watch?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: They do not function as normal watches.
  • Johannes asks: What is the small extra piece of wristband for? I can‘t find an explenation on the dvd

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: please contact our Support Wizards who will be more than happy to help. wizards@vanishingincmagic.com
  • Axel asks: Why is the watch not working? Do I need t replace a Battery?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: The watch doesn't need to work. The audience never sees the face.
  • Keith asks: Will this take very long to master? Could you be ready after an afternoon of practice?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: While it's not hard, there is timing and rhythm you'd need to practice for the routine. You should be able to pick it up quickly though!
  • Rod asks: Do you think this would work for a street show ? I am not totally surrounded due to my set up and table but the audience is fairly close !

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Your angles are pretty good with this effect but there is a change that someone on your sides can see a quick moment of the routine. If you keep the handling tight to your body, you can do it.
  • Fabian asks: After the effect, do you need to be careful not to show your sleeves/wrist too much to keep things hidden or are you free to move around? Could you take the items off again and ditch for good this time for whatever reason? Does the jacket need to be modified for this one?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Hey, If you email us at Wizards@vanishingincmagic.com we can discuss this in more detail with you
  • Harlan asks: I bought Heist and am confused as to why I only see Andy's routine even though he continually says how great Jack Wise's performance is and I should watch it. Well. Where do I find the video of him? Quite confusing.
