Maxim - magic
Maxim Maxim Maxim Maxim Maxim

A perfect hands-off reveal for any freely-named card in a deck. The holy grail of magic is easier than ever thanks to “Maxim” by Lloyd Barnes.

"A lot of apps come and go with trends. “Maxim” lives on my homescreen. It's genius." Christian Grace

“Maxim” is a must-have magic app that allows you to do amazing stacked deck work without ever having to memorize a stack. For those who already work with memorized decks, it’s the perfect companion to make miracle-level effects easier than ever. You can perform a flawless and fair ACAAN with almost no effort required.

What is “Maxim”

“Maxim” is a covert app that instantly calculates and discreetly delivers to you multiple ways to reveal a freely-named playing card in any stacked deck. You’ll instantly know exactly which number to tell them they should deal down to find their named card—in a deck they just mixed.

No complicated mathematics or brain work required. Just focus on your presentation.

Where “Maxim” really shines is how it breathes new life into the ACAAN. While having a card appear at an arbitrary number might impress magicians, it’s pretty boring to laypeople. “Maxim” allows you to make the effect more personal and magical by giving meaning to the number—whether it’s counting to the exact date of the year, spelling the card or, with a few extra seconds of prep work, personalizing it to count to their name or birthday. You'll always have a super strong reveal at your disposal.

If you want to get into semantics, this means it’s technically not an Any Card at Any Number effect because the number is calculated based on how the spectator handled the cards and is not freely named. However, we assure you that adding this extra layer of meaning makes the effect as strong, if not stronger, than what some might consider a more “pure” ACAAN.

IMPORTANT DOWNLOAD INFORMATION:
Anyone who purchases “Maxim” should receive an email from Murphy’s Magic explaining how to download the app. This is a separate email from your Vanishing Inc. Order Confirmation email and may take a few minutes to arrive. If you don’t see it, please check your spam or promotions (Gmail) folder before emailing our Support Wizards.

Here’s how “Maxim” works:

You hand your spectator a deck of playing cards in any stack of your choice. It could be Aronson, Mnemonica, Si Stebbins or even your own stack. You don’t even need to have the stack fully memorized.

The spectator is invited to “shuffle” or “mix” the deck under the table or behind their back. We put those terms in quotes because in you’ve probably already realized the order can’t be disturbed. In reality, you’re just instructing them to cut the deck multiple times. But, the way it’s structured really makes them believe they are “shuffling the deck.”

While they “shuffle”, they name any playing card. Let’s say they choose the Queen of Hearts. They bring the deck back out in front of them and you immediately know up to three different ways to reveal their card (i.e. dealing down to the exact date and finding their card).

What makes Maxim so devious is how naturally your phone is integrated into the routine. It can be used completely out in the open, giving you all the information you need, without anyone ever suspecting a thing. Or, you can use it covertly without the phone ever coming in to play.

All you need to do is focus on creating an engaging and fun performance.

Received this trick two days ago and tried it out on family and friends and it has blown their minds. This is a great app which I am able to personalize to my Gospel magic.
You will not be disappointed so buy it and start exploring how you can use it.

This app is unreal.Everyone should buy this right away.Price wise this is too cheap,my favourite magic purchase in a long time! The way this trick can be personalised will blow people away,it is so easy to perform,so everything is left to presentation.I know I will be performing this for years to come.

This is a very good idea for how to leverage always-available computing power (smartphone) to take the pressure off of doing math with a memorized stack. With the app doing the math, the performer doesn't have to even memorize the stack, and the potential outcome is very magical.
I say "potential" because the app is buggy on initial release (I am writing this on 4 August 2022). Here are some bugs I have noticed so far:
- If the deck ends up back in the "initial" stack sequence -- top card back at the top, bottom card back at the bottom -- then the math in the app is erroneous (off by +one from the top).
- Sometimes, a suggested "out" is just wrong. A suggested "out" screen may feature, for example, two possible paths to a selected card -- one from the top and one from the bottom -- and one of those "outs" would NOT lead to that card's position. Workaround is to pay attention to the card location information above the suggested "outs," and be sure to only select the "out" that gets to that card location. This eliminates SOME of the benefit of the app, but not all.
- The instructions mention a "dyamic out" related to DATES, but that's not actually in the settings, and thus not actually available to enable.
- The settings portion of the app should scroll, and sometimes does scroll, but usually does not scroll. The fix for this bug is rebooting the smartphone.
- There is a setting for "Audio Peek," which would be useful with a bluetooth earbud; however, the "Audio Peek" feature does not function at all.
- There is a setting for "Notifications," but that does not function at all.
- There is a setting for using a Screenshot as a sort of cover for the information that only the performer should see. This is a great idea, and the suggestion in the instructions to capture a screenshot of your phone's TIMER is appropriate; however, using this setting causes that screenshot to appear BEFORE the performer's necessary information, and that makes it worthless.
Note: Smartphone tested is Google Pixel 5, running Android 12, Updated 5 July 2022.

I have requested access to the Facebook group that is intended for discussion of the app, and I will share this feedback there after I'm allowed into the private FB group. I have confidence the developers can and will clean up these initial-release bugs, and the value of the app will increase to 5-Star level...

Great Idea, poor results in any language. Lots of bugs as described before. So real world performances for pro's are tricky for the reveal may be very wrong.
Instructions annoyingly unclear (Why no pdf?) and app 'forgets' imported information + you heavily rely on FB.
Would not recommend what is unusual for products from vanishing.
