Magic download (video) by Roberto Giobbi ($10.00)

Roberto Giobbi is one of the finest card technicians on the planet. He is also one of the greatest teachers of our time and in this fantastic hour-long download, he guides you in detail through three routines of Dai Vernon which he has hand picked as his Favorites.

In this first instalment of Favorites, 'Giobbi on Vernon', you will learn all of the workings, finesses and tips on three of Dai Vernon's brilliant routines. However, we believe that the true value in this download is how Roberto has woven the individual routines into an immaculate, 10 minute long, performance piece which starts with a shuffled deck. The transitions are not only effortless but absolutely seamless and without doubt, there are lessons to be learnt here for EVERYONE.

You will learn, in detail:

Emotional Reaction - A wonderful opener taken from the pages of Lewis Ganson's Inner Secrets of Card Magic. Explaining that an artist should always use his hand, his head and his heart, Roberto immediately, and charmingly engages his spectators before he impossibly finds a selected card after the deck has been freely shuffled and cut.

Four of a Kind - Also from Inner Secrets of Card Magic, 'Four of a Kind' is an impossible coincidence effect. The magician and the spectator both shuffle the deck before selecting two cards each which they exchange, face down, in order to keep their identity a secret. When the identity of the cards is revealed, the secret is proved to be worth waiting for as they are shown to be a four of a kind. This is beautiful, baffling magic at its best.

Slow Motion Aces - Roberto presents his take on Vernon's most famous routine in which four cards vanish, one by one, only to reappear on the opposite side of the table. For the climax, all four cards change places, in an instant with the spectators chosen card. This is a masterclass, not only in technique, but in how a routine should be constructed as well.

When you combine Roberto Giobbi's expertise with Dai Vernon's unmatched reputation, the only way to describe the experience is learning about a master, from a master.

Running Time: 1hr 11mins approx.

Customer reviews for Favorites - Giobbi on Vernon

Just buy it!
Probably one of the best downloads I have bought in a long time, not just for the tricks but for the lessons that are taught in there that are perfect examples of Ascanio's and Vernon concepts. Roberto Giobbi has done, as always, a great job! I'm looking forward for more Favorites.

I can't believe this information is only $10. The touches on Slow Motion Aces alone is worth so many more times than what is being charged. This is a great video! Thanks Roberto for being so generous.

This is precious material at a ridiculous price. Three powerful effects routined, principles, techniques, finesses and solid thinking. Get it or be sorry!

Get this! It's over an hour long packed with knowledge; presented by the person that brought us Card College. Can't get better than Giobbi and Vernon. There are many downloads for 10 on the magic shops nowadays but this is on a different level. First, this is more than the typical 10 for one trick. Second, he teaches you the subtleties. I recommend reading the effects (they're classics) then watching the video in sections.
Overall, this is something you won't regret buying

Really great download!!! Roberto is a good teacher and he shows some touches, concepts, subtleties. You are going to love this download, is filled with great magic from one of the best magicians, Vernon.

I loved the touches on the half pass and how to manage a last double card in a small packet. Pure gold.

Also Roberto did a great work with the credits (as always). I can't wait for the next "Favorites" from Giobbi.

Just get this, you won't regret.

Very well executed but also very boring and long winded. If you have to explain every step of a trick, as Mr. Giobbi did in this one, that does not speak well for the magic itself. Plus, just look at the expressions of the two viewer during and at the climax. That's not the reaction you want when performing.

Anything Giobbi does on Vernon is excellent. No need to wait on this one. If anything, get it for the Aces routine since it is truly a magical routine.

Really amazing. Roberto Giobbi is probably one of the best teachers ever. The subtleties, the advices, the routining, everything is pure gold.

I hate to admit it (no, actually I don't): Roberto fooled me on the set-up part for the trick after ER. :-)
Get this download. It is GOOD. Once again, I am pleasantly reminded, why Roberto Giobbi is one of my favorite teachers in magic! Very convincing and intelligent routining here.

Probably the best $10 dollars I've spent on magic. Worth it for the Slow Aces effect alone. And Roberto Giobbi is a wonderful teacher. Buy it!

This is one of three videos by Roberto Giobbi that is as part of a larger product called "Favorites" on DVD, which features Giobbi performing and teaching a series of three effects for each of three highly respected creators of card magic of the past: Dai Vernon, Alex Elmsley, and Frank Garcia. You can either get this as a separate digital download, or pick up all three as a combined set on DVD. All three videos, including this one, give you access to a digital download which is around 65-70 minutes in length, and about 600-800MB in size. The production quality is excellent, with high resolution camera work, good visuals, and clear sound. Where necessary there are camera close-ups, and even an over-the-shoulder view so that more difficult sleights can be easily followed. The first 10-15 minutes features Giobbi performing a routine of three effects that he's chosen, and which he has carefully connected and constructed into a mini-routine, followed by a careful explanation.

Dai Vernon is considered one of the fathers of modern card magic, and an all time great. Of the Vernon tricks taught by Giobbi, the opener "Emotional Reaction" is a fairly straight forward trick that is basically self-working, but has a lovely presentation. I especially loved the Gary Kurtz idea of referring to the cards as persons, and asking the spectator what name they'd give their selection. But as Giobbi points out, while it's a good trick in itself, it has principles usable for other situations. I particularly appreciated his idea of using Emotional Reaction if a card control in another trick goes wrong, and you need way to have spectator find the selection for you; or using it in a challenge situation where a spectator merely thinks of a card and wants you to find it.

Like the first trick, "Four of a Kind" is a very smooth routine that is a masterpiece of elegant construction and effect, although some simple set-up is required. Giobbi offers a wonderful and easy way to do this, despite the fact that this immediately follows a trick that uses a shuffled deck. His very neat solution to this problem can be used for many other tricks, especially when constructed together as part of a mini-routine like this.

The final trick, "Slow Motion Aces", is a mind-blowing Ace routine that is easily the highlight of the entire gig. It takes up a full half hour of explanation on the video, and requires real skill to perform, but is truly one of the great effects of card magic.

I would give Roberto Giobbi's teaching in these videos the highest praise. He is incredibly articulate, has deep respect for his sources, and has a real gift for analyzing and explaining the small nuances that are essential for the construction of strong magic. It's very obvious that he is a clever and deep thinker that gives careful thought to every aspect of his magic. His teaching approach encourages both creativity and personalization, and doesn't just help us learn magic, but understand what makes it work. The explanation helps one appreciate how carefully constructed Giobbi's routines are, both technically and presentationally, in view of all the subtleties he has built in!

There is some relatively easy material here, but there are also routines here that require advanced card-work. They are absolutely lovely to watch, and Giobbi's own sleights and technical ability are flawless. So this is not material for beginners, although intermediate magicians will appreciate that Giobbi does explain and teach all the sleights he uses. But even if you never go on to learn or perform any of these tricks, this video's worth lies in the many insights that Mr Giobbi shares, which have application to card magic far beyond the tricks he teaches. Even relatively beginners can learn a great deal from the way he approaches magic, and can benefit from the many insights he shares along the way.

I give this video series my highest recommendation. Get the entire set of three! But if I had to choose only one of the three as a digital download, I would opt for "Favorites - Giobbi on Vernon", simply because it has arguably the strongest material. If you are serious about your card magic, and want to learn from the very best, then you really can't look past Roberto Giobbi. Highly recommended! - BoardGameGeek reviewer EndersGame

As all the Giobbi's material.. This is gold..non only for the classic effects Itserlf, but for all the meticolous information about routine.

I have admit I haven’t watched
all of the video I ordered online yet, - I’m saving it for when I have time. But the service (and my first purchase for “Vanishing Magic” went smooth and seamlessly. I am able to access it anytime I want. So this review is more about the service than the product I bought.
