Meet the Team - Ben
By Ben Young - Wednesday, August 14, 2019
Who are you and what do you do at AmazeKids?
My name is Ben Young, and I'm based in Las Vegas. I help Danny and the rest of the team with marketing and social media.
What got you into magic?
I was always moderately interested in magic. I had magic sets when I was a kid, and my family frequented a restaurant that had a magician every Tuesday night. We even had him perform for my birthday party like three times. But what got me truly hooked on learning and performing magic was seeing David Blaine's Street Magic special.
What sort of magic do you do now?
Most of my shows are for family audiences, with a bit of corporate thrown in. I work with the US military a lot, and have performed at over 60 military bases worldwide for troops and their families. When I'm in Vegas, I'm an assistant for the Mac King Show (he's an up-and-comer.)
Who are your magic heroes?
Mac King (in case he reads this), Tommy Wonder, David Williamson, Tom Stone, Mario the Maker Magician, Joshua Jay (hope he doesn't read this.)
What's your favorite magic book?
Too many, and it depends on what I'm excited about at the moment. But some solid choices include Maximum Entertainment by Ken Weber, the Art of Astonishment series by Paul Harris, Maelstrom and Vortex by Tom Stone, Seriously Silly by David Kaye...
What's your favorite magic trick?
Again, depends on my mood and what I'm working on at the moment. In my stand up/stage show, my silk vanish with a child onstage brings me a lot of joy. It's evolved so much over the years and I love seeing where it goes. For close up, I recently realized I perform Scott Robinson's Queen Thing a lot! It's one of my go-to's when asked to show something.
What's one bit of advice you can share you've learned over the years?
Everything takes longer than you think it will.
Don't let comedy step on the magic moment (unless you planned it that way.)
Be likable. Know when to put your ego aside.
