Jim Steinmeyer is one of the most creative and influential magic creators in history. His creation of "Knot Unexpected" came about after Doug Henning performed the "Moving Knot" on his TV special. Doug wanted to come up with a more practical method for his touring show and reached out to Jim for help.

The Main Routine

A rope held on both ends by two spectators is openly cut right in the center. The magician ties these cut ends into a knot and then impossible slides the knot along the rope freely. It's then moved all the way to one side. And the already amazed audience is left with their jaws on the floor as the this knot is untied and the two helpers are left with two drastically uneven lengths of rope.
