Customer reviews for Music Box

This definitely fits in with my close up style. It is intimate and elegant at the same time. Sure you can buy the props and DIY. But, the magic community is too small to forego giving credit to someone who came up with a purpose and routine for their efforts. "A worker is due his wage".

This is a good trick for specific situations, very quiet rooms with only a few people. Also, the spectators need to be familiar with the songs or it will not be very convincing; therefore, it will be best for older audiences. Many of the songs only older individuals will recognize while some of the others only the younger generation might recognize.

Have a question about this product? It's possible others do too. Ask here and other Vanishing Inc. Magic customers will be able to respond with assistance! Alternatively, email us and we can help too.

  • Robert asks: I'm really intrigued but also not sure I get it. Is each box is capable of playing all the songs listed or is it just a selection of those songs via a force? Can you play one of the listed songs first before the selection of the spectator's song or is that limited to just "random" song?

    • 1. Kevin answers: From watching the demonstrations and having some knowledge of these music boxes, I believe that the strips of music paper being provided cover all of the 10 or 20 songs listed; and thus you can choose which song you want to use (I assume there is a force of some sort taught). There is also a couple of routines that cleverly use 3 music paper strips which when taped lightly together, play a different song that you have predicted. From the look of the music box, it should be possible to add other songs - if you know how to code a blank music strip (available online but the creators of this effect have already done a lot of the hard work for us. Hopefully they will provide some add-on packs of music card for more songs in due course, and it would be really cool to buy replacements so you could give away the music strip of paper to a spectator - with your contact details or a personal message added. This is a very clever effect to bring to the market and I am already seeing ways to personalize it.
    • 2. Jim answers: The paper you insert into the box is hole-punched to pluck specific tines on the mechanism so that it will play a specific tune. Causing one paper strip to play two different tunes or a "randomly-punched" strip to play a specific tune is part of the magic method that is taught.
    • 3. Robert answers: Thanks for your thoughts. I also caught that video of the 3 strips. But I’m not under the impression that the music strips have anything to do with the actual music being played. Especially since he is haphazardly punching holes in the paper. Make some thing the paper is just a prop and the music is pre-programmed in the box.

  • Wing Fung asks: is there any refill required?

    • 1. Jim answers: Refills are not required but are optional. You can use the paper and plastic strips that come with the box forever. However, you may want to buy additional strips in order to change the song or add more songs.

  • Kevin asks: Will additional songs be made available? Can I purchase blank music cards and add new songs myself? And is the Music Box a 15 tone or 30 tone?

    • 1. Jim answers: It is a 15-tone music box. There are similar music box players that use paper strips with non-magic applications. Many song strips are available online that will work with this music box. You can even download printed music strips with songs notated on them and use your hole puncher to turn them into strips that will work with this music box.

  • Guy asks: Is the only difference between the Standard and Premium versions the addition of 10 song strips?

    • 1. Nick answers: From the video, the standard version is the musical mechanism itself, with the premium version including the wooden case...and extra songs

  • Graham asks: The songs listed are all quite modern. What’s the copyright position if they are played publicly?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: The Music Box should be treated with the same process you use when adding any music to your show.
  • Dennis asks: 1. Is there a performance video, and if not, why not? 2. What is the release date? I am intrigued, but even after reading the comments above, I confused as to what the presentation is supposed to portray...the lack of a performance implies it is not strong enough to show us? Also, I'm never going to shell out a hundy for a trick that won't come until Christmas. Just keeping it real...but lacking EITHER 1 or 2 will be a deal-breaker for me...I would need both to even consider it.

    • 1. SGKYDUYEN answers: There is a full performance video, for more detail about the full performance video and the ETA of the premium version (the standard is available now). Please email magic@vanishingincmagic.com
