Magical Networking: Connecting with the Community at our magic convention in London

Magic is as much about community as it is about the new magic tricks and magic books. The Session has always been a hub for magic fans to come together at a London magic convention, share experiences, make memories, learn card tricks, and connect with fellow magicians. It really creates a sense of belonging and camaraderie among attendees.

Some magicians say that the jamming and (ahem) sessioning at The Session is more important than the actual scheduled events. These late-night experiences are often where the real magic happens. Where you meet someone in the lobby, who has made the most incredible “thing” in their garage and is now sharing it with the world.

Last year, we saw a bottle that you could push a straw through the middle of! It was an incredible illusion and the engineering behind the method was even more impressive.

You also get to hang out with the magic royalty as all the performers stay at the London venue all weekend. If you’ve got a question for someone on their material, this is your chance to ask them. And guess what! They’ll tell you—if you ask politely. And don't ruin their playing-cards!

Practising a card magic trick

No other magic convention in London is like this. Three days of hanging out in the same place with all your magic friends. But, what if you don’t know any magicians, or are a bit shy or anxious about such things? We’ve got you covered. This year, we’ve launched a new initiative called Basecamp. When you register, there’s a tick box you can select if you’d like to be part of this. In a nutshell, Basecamp attendees will get a special badge to let everyone know they are part of it. There’s special events to meet people and share some sleight-of-hand, and at meal times and in the jam sessions in the bar and lobby, there will be tables reserved just for those people. There will usually be a member of the VI team on these tables, making sure everyone gets to know each other and helps each other. Friendships that will last a lifetime will be forged. Read more about it here.
