Cups and Balls

The Cups and Balls is a classic magic trick. Normally, it is performed with three cups and three balls. The balls are placed under the cups and then vanish. They appear under one cup. Balls penetrate through the top of the cups. The multiply, vanish, jump around cup to cup and sometimes even change color. The routine usually ends with the production of some unexpected large items under the cups. These are normally pieces of fruit, tennis balls and even baby chicks.

Although no one is really completely sure of the history of The Cups and Balls, we do know now that the Egyptian cave painting in the tomb of Beni Hasan is not a depiction of the trick. Egyptologists have now confirmed it is one stage in some kind of cookery process - probably making bread.
